Having a good sort out today before the move. Came across bags and bags of my two sons old school books from reception onwards. Do you think I should take some as proof of what they have accomplished or will a letter from the head a sort of transfer record suffice?

Hi Natalie
I wondered about that too as we've just done similar clear out. We intend to get records from school and personal learning plan (Scottish thing) to outline where our son is up to educationally. Have kept a couple of examples of work too just in case they are needed. To be honest looking forward to not having to use Oxford Reading Tree as am sick of Biff, Chip and Kipper already!?

We are going to take their end of year reports and one book with their written work in.

We just took the latest school report with us and that was fine.

Check out this thread for more details:- UK School Records (http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11956)

BTW, we kept all the school work anyway as a personal reminder of when the kids were little.

My 3 kids have been to two Schools here and no School asked to see their school books just their most recent School report.

They hardly glanced at all my carefully collected evidence about where the kids were at, and they certainly didn't want to see school books. However I selected the best ones from each year to keep for sentimental reasons and so the kids have a record of their progress.

As our son had just completed a year in Reception in the UK we brought his last report, books and Foundation Profile with him. The school only had to have the last report but his teacher has had a good look through his books and his profile to gauge where he is at and there is some catching up to do!

I guess if your children are older their last report and any records the school has kept would suffice.

Good luck with the clearout!
Anneliese
