Hi everyone, My name is Willem and me, the wife and kids are currently in Dubai. I received a job offer from a company in New Zealand and they want me to start ASAP. The problem is that we need our police clearance certificates and medicals done prior to us departing for NZ as per the company. Now having to apply for the police clearances from South Africa is a bit of a problem. This is a problem cause we need to move by the end of September. Is there another way of doing this? temp work permit perhaps. I don't know what to do anymore. Can anyone please tell me what the best way would be.

And do you guys think it's really worth going through all this just to live in NZ?

Hi Wilze

I had to get a police clearance from SA and used a courier company in London. I had it back to me within a month (at a cost of about £160). I believe if you apply straight to Pretoria yourself you could be looking at anything up to 6 months. I can send you the courier company if that helps, and maybe they will be able to do it express - I don't know about that as I didn't need it that fast.

Thanks for the reply. It would be of great help if you can forward me the details of the courier company. Would you know whether I can still apply for the temp work permit and start work in the mean time?

The woman there is called Louise and is very helpful. First I had to get a form from the SA Consulate, and also have fingerprints done to be sent with the application.

I'm sure if you email Louise she will be able to tell you what else needs to be done.

Sorry I can't help with the temp work permit bit as we are going on a sponsorship so don't need a work permit. Hopefully someone else will be able to tell you that.
