Only just joined the forum, but have found some great advice:clap .
Now just wondered if anyone knows anything about Early Years Education over in NZ:confused: . I a trained nursery nurse and have a degree in primary education. Have worked for 3 years as a nanny and 14ish years in primary, mostly in Nursery and reception. I hear that to be an early years educator in NZ they have a special course of 3 years. If I do finally summon up the courage to fill out my EOI form and go for it. Can I teach in the early Years sector ( which is on the long term shortage list and therefore worth more points) or will I only be able to teach in primary. If I do get a job in the early years sector, is the pay and holidays less, because they deem this job to be less worthy than in a schools?
Have spent a couple of months over in NZ for holidays, also have Aunt and cousins who are now residence (do these count as sponsers or have they got to be immediate family?). Thoughs Dunedin looked interesting and would offer good work opportunities and social life for myself and family of 11year old girl and 9 year old boy and hubby. Has anyone got any opinions on Dunedin? The job situation there? The houses? The life?
Hope I'm posting this in the right place, as a newy to the system my first attempts at posting a letter I posted it back to myself:laugh . A degree I may have but it's not in computing!! Also not sure if I've been able to add a picture to liven up my post. If I haven't managed to add one when I post this can somebody tell me how I add on a photo?

Is your degree in Early years Education....or specifically Primary school teaching...or both???? I have a degree in EYE but Im not a teacher...so I was just wondering!!! When you have been working in schools has it been as a teacher or support??

Re family...this is what I could find...but others may be able to offer other advice and ways around it!!

OH has a degree in early years (aged 3 to 8) but has got a job in a private nursery. they are crying out for staff, the job the OH got had been advertised for 4 months with no applications. One thing though, pay is significantly lower and you do not get the school holidays. We saw it as a job to help us get the paperwork sorted to get here and she will look for something else at christmas.

If you have a degree you can do a one year early years education course, similar to the pgce in uk. the pay for early years degree qualified with the conversion route looks to be around 55K here in Auckland..

The Ministry of Education has decided that all staff in Early Years will have to have a Early Childhood Education diploma by 2012. This is a 1 yt post graduate course or 3 years if no first degree. It can be studied extra-murally, ie by distance but you have to be resident in NZ. Unless you already have PR this means you can do it on a student visa but will have to pay international fees.
The one yr course can be done at Auckland, Palmerston North or a 15 month course in CChurch.
Some nuseries will help you do it if you get a job first but most seem unlikely to take someone on without it and you only be paid unqualifed rate. But Speckythecky got a job, so it can be done!
Look up Early Childhood Education on google and there's loads of info.

Was the job advertised in the Ed gazette? As Kim got more than Prov. Registration do you think that's what got her the job? I've put in a few applications for teaching jobs but no interviews yet....

Such good info, thanks..Im off to do some research, I have a degree in education ( specialising in Early Yars), and I am undecided as to whether to train in primary teaching or adult teaching??
