... by the length of time taken by NZIS, maybe it's just a test of my patience !!
We've had the letter stating that our 'Skilled Migrant Application .. has been .. Accepted' at the beginning of August and that we will be allocated a CO 'within the next 8 weeks' i.e. before start of October - we have called the office and they have said that the process will take around 6 months and they have a bit of a backlog and are very busy - tell me something I don't know !!
In order to 'escalate' it, they suggested sending in a fax chasing it up - my question is it worth it ? am I just banging my head against a govt dept brick wall ?
(the reason I ask is because I would gain much better benefits from work if I got PR)
cheers

I vaguely remember being told the same but it didn't take six months, think it was more like two months.

We're in exactly the same boat. I feel like sending something in to pull the application back to the top of the pile. I think there's a bit of a bottle neck because of so many people trying to get in before the price hike. And then there's all those who deliberately applied just to hold up my application!
Fax it - that's what I say!

Hi all,
I remember well how stressful the waiting game was :no !
For what it's worth, by all means keep in touch with INZ about your application, but do it gently. I have heard from people in the know (who have regular contacts with INZ Case/Visa Officers) that in some cases pushing too hard can result in an application being purposely delayed !
Also, have you checked out this page http://www.immigration.govt.nz/branch/londonbranchhome/tipsandprocessingtimes/skilledmigrantprocessingtimes.htm with the current processing times ?
This (seventh paragraph) is the bit that tells you about current processing times:
"Once the pre-populated application form is returned to the London branch it should be allocated to a visa officer within four months. As an example, for the week ending 7th September 2007 we are allocating files lodged up to and including 20th July 2007."
(Upon seeing this I realise that they have done quite some catching up, when we were waiting the difference between the two times was indeed more like four or five months !)
Hope this is of some help to you and good luck, hope something happens for you sooner rather than later !

thanks, my application is with the Wellington branch of NZIS - the processing page on the website says as above (6-9 months) - I had heard that if you're too pushy they can find excuses to procrastinate ...
I'll send a 'diplomatic' fax asking if they could assign a CO sooner rather than later and if the application could be processed as soon as possible
:)

When we were waiting for our PR from Wellington, we were also told it could take months to process. I believe that because you are in NZ already, then don't perceive any rush?
Anyway, in our case we went to Wellington branch in person to say we needed the PR sooner rather than later due to our son wanting to start university and couldn't until we had the PR. Told to call back the following day and got them on the spot. So it is possible to get it done sooner, if there is a good reason?
