Hi everyone.

I have a deadline to submit the ITA by 1st November, so I am planning to have it ready by mid-October (to allow a bit of contingency in the event of last minute hitches). I've just phoned to check appointment availability for the medicals, and they can fit us in within 2 weeks.

I am trying to work out how late I can leave the medical, as hubby is dieting at the moment - and every pound off may count!!!

They say that the results usually take around 2 weeks, but if either of us needs extra bloods to be done, can anyone suggest how long it takes to turn them around?

I'm thinking that I need to get my appointment for end September, and no later, would you agree?

Hi Jane - difficult one as I suspect all doctors are different. We had our results back within 5 days but then I needed an echo cardiogram and that took another 5 days to book, so for us 2 weeks was more than enough. Other people may have different experiences though!

Hi Jane,

our turn around was also very quick, a matter of days - If you think there may be a problem either with BMI or weight or waist measurments then it could be an idea to not eat anything for 12 hours before attending - that way they can do the extra blood test there and then. Make sure that you tell them if you have been fasting it enables them to get a better result.

Thanks!

When they are measuring the waistline (in men), do they measure above or below the belly? Or at the widest part?

Hubby's BMI is fine, but it depends where you measure his middle....

I have just answered this elsewhere - but it is around the belly button.
