As I just gave birth a baby last week, I have been giving presents, mainly bootee &/or cardigan or baking cakes from locals people...even they are not "friend" just i got to know them in last three months since moved to springston.
I mentioned to my midwife about this, she said it is normal custom for kiwis to support new mums. I am so surprised because i wasn't expect this....

Community spirit here seems much stronger than we were used to in UK. Sounds like you are settling in very well in new area :)

Sophia - congratulations on the birth of your baby. Hope you are not too tired and are being looked after by your husband. People are amazing, hey? Enjoy it.
