Hi everyone. After much searching around for information I stumbled across this place and I'm hoping that you may be able to help me get my head around the tricky process of getting visa's sorted and all the other things I'd have to think about but haven't yet...

Hi all and thanks for the lovely intro...

I'm very much at the ideas stage at the moment... I've been back in Sheffield for about 6 months after living in Hong Kong for a year. I loved living in Hong Kong but the work really did not suit, and I came home with the idea that I would live abroad permanently one day.

I visited NZ when I was in HK and did some work out there, met some guys that work for my firm, etc so feel pretty comfortable with my profession out there and also have quite a few friends out there as they tended to coach my HK hockey team... So of all the places in the world I reckon I couldn't do any better than NZ.

Add to that the fact that my boyfriend quite fanices living in NZ and I certainly wouldn't want to bring children up in the UK, it all seems like a darn good idea...

What I'm really trying to get my head round at the moment is the visa process, etc - what the best way of applying would be for us and what sort of timescale we need to look at...

I'll post some more specific questions another time as the Immigration website raises more questions than it answers for me but for now I ought to get on with some work...

Right, how do you decide what the best route is to get the points you need? I have so many options available and I have no idea how to attack this process! I guess it also depends on how quickly I want to make the move...

I could wait around in the UK, see how things go with my fella and maybe work towards getting the points for being in a partnership... But then I also have the option of trying for a secondment with work and then see if I decide to stay when I get there (advantage being they take care of the paperwork, disadvantage being that the timeframe for that will be difficult to co-ordinate with my fellas application)... I could try and get a job offer out there and go that route...

I think the most difficult thing is that I don't really understand what my man needs to do to get his PR as he's a primary teacher... I think getting me out there is the easy bit :)
