Weren't they taken on a digital camera so that somewhere there would be a back up disc and you would be able to get more printed??

I could ask photographer, he was a bit funny though, and only gave us album...and the photos won't come out of the album...they are stuck...so its a nightmare to scan them as the whole thing has to be put on, and it won't go flat...I may give him a ring, but Im sensing he may try to rip us off!!!

Our guy was the same - any chance to make an extra buck! We just packed our album with all the other things and there was no problems at all with it. Just pack it well and it should be fine.

when you say pack it well...what do you mean?? I would probably just wrap it up in blankets or something...are you meaning something more technical???

Blankets are always good :) Unless your shipping company has the bubble wrap that breathes, then I would avoid standard bubble, due to condensation forming.

We scanned all of our loose photos, but the ones stuck in albums are being wrapped up with the other fragile things.

I had all my photos on a disc and something went wrong with the disc and now cant open any of the photos - dont know how to sort that out. I will be devastated if something then happens to my photos.

Ours came in a box with thousands of other photographs. As the shippers to put some dessicant in there to absorb moisture (if any). We had no problems whatsoever.

Ours were just packed with all our other albums and arrived with no problems. I have some head and shoulder shots that I had done when I was 22 and they've (so far) been shipped to the UK with all my stuff when I married DH then shipped back from the UK when we moved over here - and they're still in perfect condition.
It's scary leaving all your precious stuff with the shippers, isn't it? My biggest fear was that my children's baby hand and foot thingys (set in clay) would be broken as they were done when they were 1 and that can never be done again. I wasn't too worried about furniture, just the sentimental bits and bobs.

Do you know what is wrong with the disc? Has it been physically damaged or, you just can't read the files anymore?

Most good wedding photographers should keep a record of your wedding photos on file, you just have to check how long for.
The reason they do this normally is so that Aunty so and so can order some prints directly from them. So it wouldn't be a case of getting a back up copy for yourself but more a case of confirming you can re-order if anything was to happen to your photo set.
We put all our photos together in two sturdy plastic boxes that we bought, the packers then wrapped them in brown paper and labelled them fragile. We felt more comfortable with this than letting the packers pack them themselves - although we did have to open the lid to show there were photos in there for the inventory.
Cheers

I had the same worries especially as my Dad had also got us a lovely leather handmade album form Venice for all our wedding photos. The album was packing in our container with everything else and arrived in perfect condition, nothing to worry about.
I did think about putting in in the hand luggage but thought it was too risky if it got lost.

There are many reasons why you could fail to read the files (here are some):-
* The CD writer alignment is different from the CD reader
* The CD material does not match the characteristics of the drive
For these problems, try the original writer drive if available, else try other drives by other makers. Chances are you will find a drive that will be able to read the files. Then you can copy the disk data to a new CD.
* CD imperfections e.g. scratches etc
* CD degraded, some CDs degrade in quality quicker than others
For these problems, try doing a disk to disk copy (bit copy) whith ignore any errors option selected. This should give you a new readable copy that might have a few data errors in the files. This would be a big problem for program files etc but for images this is generally less of an issue.
You could also try a data recovery service who have specialised equipment for this sort of problem.

We scanned all our photos and saved to CD's. We gave copies to relatives so if either our photos or disks were damaged, we could get replacements.
