Hi guys and girls,
Looking through previous post, it seems to me that I should be taking all electrical goods (especially white goods) with us to NZ. What about furniture, I read some where to make a list of essential items and then halve it. Ie Only take furniture if it's valuable or antique, because second hand furniture is easy to get hold of and cheap in NZ......is this true?.
Another problem is my dear hubby (no he's not too heavy!!! Well!) it's just that he has a garage load of machines ie band saw, milling machine, surface grinder, lathes etc (big boys toys in excess of 3 tonnes). Now for anyone out there in NZ, is it worth him paying the transportation for these things or is it easy to get hold of that sort of stuff 2nd hand over there?
Is the weight an issue with transportation or is it the room it takes up? :cheers

Hi Guys
Can't help with info regarding getting those types of machines in NZ but we have had 3 removal quotes and are led to believe the quotation is based on volume of goods rather tham weight. Sure someone else will be along soon to verify/correct.

One other thing re tools and the reason Im not taking any is that they have to be clean and very clean. Mine are unfortunately used in forestry and try as I might they will always carry muck of some sort somewhere, so with heavy heart they are being sold, disposed of and given away. Gulp.

I wouldn't worry about the weight! You should have seen the stuff we brought in ours! Cabinets full of nuts bolts washers, machine parts etc - I think there were five huge cabinets like that, a massive pillar drill, a lathe that weighed at least a ton! Huge toolboxes filled with stuff, Cement mixer, stille saws, welders, two huge scags (mowing machines) an ifor williams trailer, etc etc, three quaters of our container was Kev's workshop stuff! It took two days to wrap and pack our stuff for the 40 footer and a full day to load it all. The packers said it was the heaviest domestic move they had ever done!!!!!!!!!!:o
Oh yeah and my hubby says definately bring your stuff, he bought a lot of equipment from liquidation sales in the uk, we've not seen anything like it here, and the quality of stuff Kev has looked at isn't as good or you really pay through the nose if you want decent equip!
If there is going to be a problem with the weight your packers should inform you when the come to do the quote.
If you want any more info on ours send me a pm!

Bring all your tools.....there is alot less manufacturing industry in NZ compared to UK, and therefore some of machines you have specifically mentioned are more expensive and harder to get hold of here. Usually it is the space of stuff that is an issue when shipping, though some machines might have to be placed in custom made crates inside container....important to ask when getting quotes as it doesn't get done automatically.
