For anyone who might be needing accommodation in the Rotorua area, I can recommend Affinity Cottage:

Very quite and peaceful surroundingS and just a 10-15 minute drive to the center of town.
For people new to NZ: The owners were willing to offer a reduced rate for longer stays. One big plus: The cottage has wireless broadband... very useful for research you need to do after you first arrive!
