So we have arrived and have finally had time to sit down and write our news....have had a busy ten days days in New Zealand - the flight was far better than we expected - we really were fearing the worst - 33 hours, 4 airports, ten pieces of luggage and three children .....urgh! But it went much better than we thought it would. We were lucky enough to have a spare seat the whole journey so the kids could get laid out to sleep, baby had a cot, which was great as the motion of the plane kept him asleep the whole time. We also got lots of extra leg room which hubby was happy about. 4 year old was engrossed in the TV the whole journey - they had loads of kids films and she was happy with her headphones on watching them most of the time. Even 2 yr old seemed to keep himself busy. So we were pretty lucky and they were very well behaved.

We have got quite a lot done in a short space of time - we got a rental sorted reaaly quickly - great house in Silverstream - just where we wanted to be-was like fate!
our 4 yr old goes to the kindergarden tomorrow for her first visit and starts in October. The commute to work will be about 30 minutes for hubby, so not too bad. It's a real family area with lots going on for the kids.
Our thoughts so far......
Wellington is an incredibly beautiful city - we are overwhelmed with some of the views, The people are very friendly and it is very family orientated - we are constantly being stopped so people can coo over the kids and chat to us, and we have been made to feel very welcome. The supermarkets sell all the English brands and the kids were pleased to see some of their favourite programmes are on TV here - 'In the Night Garden' is on every morning.

On a down side, Coronation Street is behind....but maybe thats a good thing as it might wean me off it! New Zealand houses have rubbish heating - apparently it is getting better and the newer houses have much better insulation and heating, but when we got here the holiday house was freezing as it only has some electric heaters and hubby had to go out and buy us all thermal socks to wear for bed ! Oh dear ! We are told that most of the year it is warm so it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but I miss my radiators.

Needless to say, it still feels like we are on a bit of a holiday - we have been so busy that it hasn't sunk in yet I don't think.

So, thats about everything for now, we are all well and doing good, the main downside being that we wish we could have all our familes out here with us

Yay - welcome to NZ!! :clap

I thought I'd wean myself of Corrie too, but no :no I'm as addicted as ever!! I have to avoid conversations with Brit newcomers as we're about a year or so behind (same with Emmerdale and Eastenders!). Once you've caught up it's fine! One difference, you view them in very different ways - whenever they do a shot in the store in Emmerdale I'm staring at the shelves looking for brands I've long forgotten! Oh, and the pub in Emmerdale looks inviting these days!! :D

Welcome to NZ Northern5 - I'm an old hat at this now, having been here all of 5 weeks! Glad you're enjoying Welly. OH is working over there at the moment, just for a few weeks more. He complains it's really cold over there, he wears his winter woolies Mon-Fri then strips off his fleece as he arrives back in Nelson. We wore coats for about 1/2 hr last weekend - that was the first time we'd needed them here!
