Hi

I'm moving (on my own) to New Plymouth in January. I've got a job but nowhere to live at the mo. I'm gettin past it now tho', just hitting middle age! Does it matter? No not a jot. Hoping it all goes smoothly. My one worry has been trying to find a panel doctor....there are only two in my city and I can't get an appointment for a month! Crazy, I'm sitting here for 4 weeks with everything else organised. I'm hoping the blood test and medical shows nowt wrong or then I'll really be worried about getting my visa on time.

Does anyone know New Plymouth? If it's good enough for Tom Cruise .............. well it will do me fine.

I really enjoy reading this forum, it's so interesting and I find chats about stuff that didn't enter my head at all. If it's good enough for Tom Cruise .............. well it will do me fine.

One thing that was helpful to me - if I fly east I can take 20kg of luggage....if I fly west (to LA specifically) I can take 2 bags of 23kg. Since I'm not moving my wordly goods it's worked out great. It's gonna be a lot of fun in Heathrow with li'l ol' me trying to move 2 suitcases! haha can't wait.

Anyway, glad to have joined the boards at last.

Have you tried the one on Rubislaw Terrace? - they were pretty slick when we did ours, got an appointment whenever we wanted and they sorted us out with the Albyn hospital for Xrays etc.

Hi there, I am a New Zealander living in London and my sister lives near New Plymouth. I have been there many times - what would you like to know in particular- I always enjoy the shops but that is probably a bit shallow.

Look for posts/threads by Hannah. She lives there with her family and raves about it.
Good luck!

New Plymouth seemed really nice when I was there earlier this year - good shops and a great new museum/library Puke Ariki. Everyone talks about it as a good place to visit. What it's like to live there, I couldn't say. Still, you'll have a terrific view of Taranaki when it next erupts ;)

The disadvantage of the westbound route is that you have to go through immigration and customs in the US even if you are in transit, which can be a real pain, especially if you don't have a lot of time between flights (we nearly missed our connection flying out at the end of June for a visit because of this).
