I just discovered this site yesterday and thought I would join as the queries and answers are so down to earth, practical and everyone seems very friendly.

My name is Alison, my husband is Stephen and his 15 year old son is Lewis. We currently live in the Argyll area of Scotland (been up here 2 years) but we originate from West Yorkshire. Stephen obtained his job offer (Gov Dept in Auckland) in July and our EOI was selected 1st August. Our ITA is currently with our case worker in London. Main reason for wanting to move to NZ is for the lifestyle and sheer beauty of the land. If successful, we will be moving with no high expectations or chasing the elusive (non-existent) pot of gold but we hope to work hard at building a better, safer and less stressful life.

It's been a heck of a strain so far - we also have our adored pets to consider (2 dogs and 3 cats) and from what I have read, pets don't seem welcome in rentals. We can but try.....

So, now we play the waiting game. In the meantime we hope to sell the house, cars, chickens and chicken hut, de-clutter here and there, get rid of things we cannot take, all in the hope of a positive outcome.

Bye for now. Alison.

PS - just off hand, anyone know of a nice area to live, about 30 minutes away from Auckland centre (any direction). (:yes ....yes I am buying the recommended book when I have finished this).

Hi Alison

Welcome to the forum and the roller coaster journey! There are so many of us on this forum in various stages of the move (from just thinking about it to having done it years ago) that you are bound to find answers to most questions and loads of moral support too!

Welcome to you both! We're busily in the last stages of getting our 2 cats off to NZ. Although it hasn't been an easy (or cheap) ride, it's completely worth it. I'm in Canada, so a lot of the procedure will be different for you when it comes time, but I'll be happy to help in any way I can. Good luck with everything :)

I've only been on the forum myself for a few weeks and have found the information gained from here invaluable. You are lucky that you seem to be half way there already. How lucky you are. We are only just on the brink of completing the EOI form and haven't got a sniff of a job. So well done and good luck.:cheers

Welcome. It's a strange business isn't it. We've just got one horse to sell = the three cats are letting the new owner of the house move in with them. The badgers took the chickens on the night of the great storm last year but the chickenhouses sold quite quickly. The dogs are coming with us although things would be a lot more straightforward it they stayed here! Couldn't bear it though.

Good luck:)
