Hi Everybody
I have just received my ITA and have some questions I am hoping somebody can help me with.
I have gained enough points due to the fact that I am a qualified Carpenter and Joiner with over 10 years work experience in that trade.
However I no longer work on the tools. Seven years ago I started working in an office using AutoCAD and more recently working in Joinery Production Management.
My questions are these : If I gain PR will I have to go back to being a joiner in New Zealand and if so for how long before I am free to take up an office role ??
Also could I do an office role if it was applicable to Joinery ( For example Joinery Production Management ??? )
If anyone has any idea I would be very grateful. :hopeso

I think policy states that work experience points are to be related to qualifications. There is policy that states how long in a time frame that you must have doen that. its important to remember that they but a simple bunch who would probably just class you as man who works with wood. There guidlines are broad and with work experience sections there is tolerance. If you had to go back to being a chippee then if had an offer of employment then you would have to ensure that you demonstated that you worked consistently for 30 hrs per week for three months after landing. Once that is done then you are free. Just a case of selling yourself and stating how unique you are. I had to with my fibrous plastering related issues.

Thanks Dan for the info
At the moment on my expression of interest I have only declared my work experience from when I was on the tools ( as that gave me the 10 years I needed ) When I send my ITA back should I also include work that I have done since progressing off the tools ?? I suppose it is relevant to Joinery ?? Would this help me to work in a role in Joinery but not necessarily on the tools ??
Sorry to sound thick !!

Yorkie,
My hubby was the same didn't do ten years on the tools (electrician). He now works on network design but on the ITA we put a note under each job role after being on the tools as 'career progression still related to electrical work'. They seemed to accept that.
believe there's no way my hubby would go back on the tools, he takes all his time changing a light bulb :eek
Good Luck

just reread your first post mistook for EOI not ITA.
If you had enough points to pass EOI it doesn't matter as you have gained points for the trade but that doesn't mean you have to do that job. When we went to the NZIS expo at EArls Court the immigration officer said he has never known an ITA to be turned down that has passed the EOI from the UK. He also said thats not to say one has failed but 99.9% get PR :nice1 .
So I wouldn't worry your little socks of as long as you can prove the experience and show you are willing and able to settle you should be OK :hopeso
Best of luck
