Hi All

We just came back from having medicals done and was a ridiculous experience. We were charged £60 extra each cos both our waist measurements were 1cm (mine) and 2cm (OH) over the guidance but BMI was fine. Now I've never been skinny and neither has my OH but am reasonably healthy UK size 14 know I could lose a few pounds but am convinced this is just a money making scheme. All in all for 2 adults and 2 children it costs £660 on top of the £150 pounds we had already shelled out for x-rays. All the work was done by a nurse and the doctor ran through the questions with us and did the most basic physical - £660 for less than an hour of their time:mad:

On top of that we've just spoken to NZIS who having told us last week our ITA was imminent we've now been informed that there is a huge backlog :( . I know folks have been waiting a lot longer than us but we waited to submit when we had a job offer cos we had been told that we would be processed faster and clearly that's not the case! OH is supposed to start job in November - serves us right for being so cautious. Anyhow advice from NZIS was to send fax and they'll respond in 7 days so that's what I'm about to do.
Has anyone else had EOI approved yet from 29 August selection?

Okay rant over - think positive!!

Where was that? We need to arrange medicals now, too. There's no-one in East Lothian, Bonnyrigg seems the nearest, otherwise it's Edinburgh.

I'm just about to submit my EOI, and I have a job offer, so that's a bit of a concern. I've told them it will be after Christmas anyway, though so hopefully we'll be OK.

Big hugs. Our medical was similar in that it was very basic and I really don't think she could have told if our glands were enlarged the touch was so light.

It's so frustrating at times, you're right....... think positive. Hope it all goes smoothly from now on in.

I thought they only had a 6week wait for ITAs so hopefully you get it through soon.

Silly thing is that my waist was 1cm too big but BMI fine, doctor said nothing about it, NZIS said nothing about it either. Maybe because I am post menopause but it does seem they make their own rules up as they go along.

Chin up Karen - it will all work out!

Hi, hope you feel more positive.

We had to travel up to Inverness ( 2 1/2 hour journey) for ours (3 of us) and all in all, incl x-rays, cost us £842. Like you we had the most basic of physical exams but the doc had forewarned us when we booked the appt about the waist issue and having to pay for extra blood tests. We knew we were a little bit overweight :uhoh ,so for a month my hubby and I did the cereal for breakfast and lunch and a balanced dinner regime and it worked. We were determined not to have to fork out extra. (Anyway we are not too good with needles).

As for the EOI, thankfully OH completed it and it did take him a long time.

Best wishes and stick with it,

Alison.

My EOI was picked out of the pool on the 29th August and I received a letter yesterday from NZ saying so. That's as much as I've heard.

I am now going through the talent visa route so have asked for a refund for my EOI as I don't have time to wait for it..........we shall see if I get one.

Okay I take back what I said about NZIS have just checked website and EOI decision is successful so ITA is on it's way :clap We've just about got all the stuff together so should be able to submit shortly. Felt bad now about slagging them off but you do get frustrated easily. As for medicals cannae mind who asked now but we had to go up to Edinburgh (Leven Medical Practice) for our ones too and for all my moans about the process/prices they couldn't have been nicer. Do remember that they had a waiting list though and it took us 6 weeks to get appointment so my advice would be book early.

Thanks for all your supportive messages
Karen
