Hello There,
Just got an email from my case officer that due to some doctor comments on my medical (I never opened the sealed medical form), my medical has been referred to a Medical Assessor in NZ.
Does any one know what happens after this? I mean how much time will it take?
I have a job offer and am supposed to join on October 1st, 2007.
My waist is 38 and other than that i am fit and in perfect health. However, keeping my diet in view, i will not be surprised to see high level of Cholesterol, Lipids, and Triglycerides on my medical report.
Any similar cases?????? My application is with INZ Bangkok???? Any similar cases?????

Hi Hammadkkhan,
Sorry to hear of your situation.
Although I don't have the answer to your problem, I can say that it is standard procedure when any medical 'abnormalities' are found, that the case is referred to a Medical Assessor and although it doesn't automatically mean serious trouble, it can take time to be resolved.
From what I was told when we were dealing with Medical Assessors, there are very few of them around (only six !), which is why it can take time. Unfortunately, how much time is anyones' guess :uhoh.
Have you tried contacting your Case Officer by phone to discuss your situation ? I'm sure they would understand the urgency if you need to start a job in the very near future, perhaps he/she would have some advice to offer as to what your options are re. the job ? This would definitely be my first course of action in your situation.
Also because they should tell you exactly why your case is being referred to a MA, that would give you a better idea of what you're facing. Usually they request more information on the problem in question (ie report from your doctor or a specialist or more blood tests), so if you could find out what it is, you might be able to get the additional information required more quickly.
Sorry I can't be of more help, having been there myself (albeit without the pressure of starting a job very soon !), I can imagine how stressful this is for you. I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you that it is sorted out quickly. Let me know if you have any more questions, you can always pm me if you prefer.
Good luck !

When the medical asessor has checked your notes they'll give you about a month to come up with whatever further medical info is needed.
We had to go through this twice and I'd guess it delayed our PR application for my partner by about three months.

I wouldn't expect the problem to be due to you BMI, if this was the case then your doctor should have ordered a fasting blood test for you at the time when you did your blood tests. Unless of course they did and found a problem?
