Not sure where to post this question, figured this was as good as anywhere.
Starting to apply for a few jobs, but they're all over NZ, and to a certain extent it's in the lap of the gods where we'll finally end up (unless Andy gets 15 job offers to take his pick from ha ha)
I'm wondering if anyone knows how big a difference there is in the weather/climate from Southland all the way up to Northland, on the whole is it just a few degrees or more dramatic than that? And a rough idea of the levels of rainfall would be appreciated too.
Thanks a lot! Carol

Hi Carol,
There is a huge difference in temp and rainfall totals between South and North Islands and also from East to West. Around high ground (mountains etc) will also massage the figues, but totals can vary very locally, which is what makes the place so interesting. I have an interest in the weather in the UK and that is translating already to following the weather in NZ.
Looking at last years totals Canterbury has a normal rainfall similar to that of the UK during 2006. North Island in general was around 2.5 to 3 times more.
Shameless plug for my website at www.nzweather.net you should be able to find something there.

the other good site is www.metservice.co.nz and there is also a farmers one that is www.fencepost.co.nz now you really know who is an anorak where the weather is concerned.
I think I was one of the few people who used to tune into the weather channel in the UK.

This site is wonderful
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/tmcgavin/current_nzweather.html
The links down the side go to mini-met stations all over the country with live feeds and historical data.
My favourite site is
http://www.metvuw.com/
it has excellent forecasts.
As Mr TW said, there is a huge difference between North and South, like comparing Invernesshire with Cornwall.
