Hi all

Phil and Lil here from Blenheim. Well we moved to NZ and Blenheim 2 years ago from Cheshire but we are originally from the North East of England. We got the forum link from our friends who are moving to NZ soon probably to Welly or Christchurch.

Not sure if there are many people out there that would come to live in such a small town but we came for the wonderful weather and the fabulous wine!

Phil is working on setting up a tiny boutique vineyard - only 3 acres (hopefully we will make our own pinot). Very small and typical pommy thing to do but we like it so who cares.

I work as a management consultant in welly for 4 months in winter to get the dosh to take the summer off as its so nice.

Is there anyone else out there in Blenheim? and also we are happy to give anyone any help that are looking to move into Marlborough from the UK.
:cheers
So hope to hear from someone soon.

Lil and Phil

Hello Phil & Lil

Welcome to the forum.
Thought I must say Good morning, (well evening to you).
As you can see we are Phil & Ali and we should be in NZ before Christmas, and very likely Blenheim, Picton, Havelock or maybe Nelson.
There'll be plenty of questions coming your way very soon !!!

Boutique vineyard ... my idea of heaven...

Hi Phil and Lil,

You live in a lovely area - indeed, it sounds like living the dream.
We are in Wellington, because we love this town, but we might live somewhere else in future and Marlborough is one our list of other places to live.

Enjoy your life,
Anita

Welcome! Can you tell me what the coast is like near Blenheim? WE drove through the town on our reccie but didn't get out to the coast; is it a swimable beach, surf, driftwood? Good for water sports?
Thanks!

Hi all thanks for the replies

keep in touch

To answer the question re coast line and beach - Rarangi is very stoney and is ok for walks but not much more - there is a beach futrher round the coast by 5 mins Whites Bay I think - it is sandy and swimable. Nothing is that good for water sports I'm afraid.

I am not sure how this replying works but will figure it out!

Hi Phil and Lil and (a somewhat belated ;)), welcome to the forum !

You are sooooo lucky, we LOVE Blenheim !

We visited on our recce trip in 2005 and it immediately became our favourite place in NZ. Unfortunately work dictates that for now we need to stay around the Auckland area, but we would very much like to retire to Blenheim when the time comes.

Cheers,
Silver

Hi Phil and Lil

Since a few months I live in Blenheim with a particular interest in the wine industry. Maybe we could catch up one day to exchange some information on this very interesting industry - preferably over a glass of wine?

Cheers,
Anita

Hi guys

Thanks for the welcome, but I have been active on the forum since 4 years but under another name (together with hubby). But since I live and study in Blenhein I thought it would be a good idea to have my own membership on this forum.

As you can see from my signature I have spent most of my time in NZ in Wellington (the centre of the universe....)

Cheers,
Anita

How wonderful to be living in Blenheim ! As mentioned before, we loved Blenheim when we visited in 2005. Are you enjoying living there ?

Hi Silver

I loved living in Wellington - for me it is by far the best city of NZ to live, especially as a 'newcomer'. However, I am going through a career change because of my disappointment with work in Wellington and so I am studying in Blenheim.

Blenheim is a nice, quiet, provincial town in my opinion, but hard to compare with Wellington because my life is so different over here.

However, in general I am surprised how much I like living here because people told me that Blenheim is very conservative. And this might be the case, but people are very friendly and more open than I had expected, so for a few years I am perfectly fine here! I do not know about long term though.

Cheers,
Anita

Hi

We haven't accessed the forum for quite a while - mainly e-mail problems as we don't use our everyday e-mail here as it doesn't allow gmail accounts and I keep forgettingt he password and then give up! It was only as our friends Dee and Andy were here that they signed on and we noticed we had more posts.

Time has flown so we missed some last year. Well we are still in Blenheim and if anyone wants to get in touch again - we will be better at accessing the forum. We have survived the recent storms but are still pumping out the water as we were very badly effected by the floods.

Keep in touch
Phil and Lil
