hi folks,
i hope someone can shed some light on my situation.
EOI is selected. No ITA yet.
Points were based on HND in Computer Science which i have seen in this thread http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showthread.php?p=105661#post105661 as being level 5.
however i had it assessed (Preliminary assessment) by NZQA and they awarded a level 7.
anyone any advice ? am now terrified that my points will be deducted because of my quals and hence a bunch of bonus points go out the window

It can sometimes take a while to get the ITA. Our EOI was selected in March, but it was early July before our status changed to "Decision Successful" and we received the ITA. Hang on in there....

I had my qual. pre-assessed as level4, then formally assessed as level5.
Not sure why it changed, but I suspect they err on the side of favouring the applicant if there's any doubt, which is nice. I certainly wasn't complaining anyway.

We got our ITA today !
I have a Computing Degree and it came with a yellow nzqa sheet saying level 7 if thats any help to you ?
Unfortunately (and I guess this will happen to you) because I am claiming points for my degree as it's in a Long Term skills shortage area we have to have a full assessment from the NZQA. AFAIK this is gonna cost us 450 dollars too !
I don't really see why it costs so much just to confirm your degree against their equivalent. But hey ho ...
good luck.

hi,
You will certainly need full NZQA if you are claiming bonus points for a qualification without a job offer. However I suspect that the HND will not get fully assessed as equivalent of a degree (Level 7) as the post which you supplied a link to. This would mean that you would loose the bonus points. What would happen then is would depend on how many points you have left. Without the qualification you would loose the bonus points for qualification in an area of skill shortage and work experience in an area of skill shortage. If you have over 100 points you would be returned to the pool. If you have less than 100 points you wont have enough to be in the pool and will be removed.
I am afraid we went through something similar with my wife's catering qualifications.
If you could secure a job offer this would probably solve this as you would probabaly have enough points without bonus points to be issued an ITA.
If you have any questions fell free to PM me.

I am not sure if this applies but the below is from the list of approved qualifications which would suggest level 5 for computing
"The following Higher National Certificates and/or Higher National Diplomas awarded by BTEC are assessed as occupying Level 5 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.
Agriculture
Business
Computing
Design (Higher National Diploma only)
Engineering
Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management (Higher National Diploma only)
Public Administration

folks,
i have since learned that the qualification i have is called "Higher Diploma in Computer Science" and was dependent on me having had a degree first.
In the UK (not the same educational system setup as Ireland) the qualification called "Higher National Diploma" is what you would do to lead up to a degree - would I be right in saying that ?

My hubbie has had his IT quals assessed and [from the top of my head cause we've just handed in out ITA] he got a level 5 for the HND and a level 8 for his PgDip
As far as I'm aware to claim bonus points for your IT related skills you require a level 7 assessment. But I could be wrong.
