Gosh - what a surprise to see your names as the topic :eek

Your wish is my command.

This is how the floor used to be with cork tiles all over it.

This is what I was originally calling the Hall but should I suppose be called the Family Room

And the other view of the woodburner

The spiral staircase looks nice but it's a bit of a pain actually. I've just spent the last 2 weeks stripping it down to the original wood. It takes up a lot of room, which is wasted and is a bit too modern for the period of the house. Not that we are short on space for the two of us. There are two bedrooms at the top of it though so we can't really get rid of it :laugh and Dave can't figure out another way of accessing the bedrooms.

I think the kitchen will be a long time in the building, we're waiting for the plumber, who also does roofing :eek to come and sort out the roof for us. Dave doesn't have roofing skills I'm glad to say - I wouldn't fancy him going up ladders to sort the roof out. :no

At least these old villas do have a bit of character about them, even though it's costing us a fortune to do it up and add the heat pumps and extend the kitchen. It's all the wood that Dave loves, his Dad was a joiner and has passed his love of wood on. That's why he was so keen to buy the house without me having seen it.

Hope you enjoy the piccies and eventually get something that you like too.

Wow Sandra! Its a really fab house! How long did it take for you to renovate the whole thing? Did you have some construction people help you out?

It really looks wonderful!

Hi Dave and Sandra,

Your house looks stunning and what a job well done.

Hope I can visit them when I visit Palmerston North in April/May.

Dave had the outside painted by decorators but he pulled up all of the cork tiles from the floor himself before I got to NZ. It was an awful job as they were glued down and the glue had to be removed as well.

Then we sanded and polyurethaned the floor over 2 weekends after I got here. It took 2 days to sand the floors and then 2 days to polyurethene them. We had to put 3 coats on and leave each coat 6 hours to dry. Luckily it was a nice weekend so we spent most of our time outdoors waiting for each coat to dry. We got very high on the smell of the polyurethane and the poor cat had to be locked in one of the bedrooms before each coat was applied.

Vincent

You're welcome to have the guided tour - just $10 charge :laugh :laugh Only joking. It would be good to see other people from the forum - we've all been through so much together.
