Hi there
Our EOI has just been selected from the pool :raebanana
We will appreciate if any one guides us in these directions
1. What NZ immigration will be doing during coming days or months? And how long will each process take?
2. What should we do during this time, I mean medical, police, IELTS etc, or we should wait for the immigration office guideline.
3. If every thing goes perfect, we will land New Zealand by the end of 2008, but it seems one year preparation is not enough, any guideline so that we manage our calendar accordingly?
4. When should we start our job hunt?
5. Is it risky to land New Zealand without job offer and with weak financial conditions? I will try to leave my country after I get my CCSP (Cisco Certified Security Professional)
Please comment or response with useful forum links
Thanks

Hi Syed,
First of all congratulations -:clap
If you search there is a really useful post by Juniper explaining the procedure from EOI onwards. ( Its called a walkthrough or something)
What NZIS are now doing is checking you EOI to ensure that you have correctly claimed all of the points. When they are happy that you have sone this - you get the ITA and then have to prove that you have all of the documents to back it up. The lengh of time depends on loads of factors - for example our EOI got pulled last May and we have only just had the interview.
if you have a job offer it can be A LOT quicker. - good luck

When our EOI was selected, back in March, we got all excited and planned to move by the end of the year. It then took 4 months to get the ITA letter.... our plans are now looking at Spring next year! And that is mainly dependent on selling a house..... I would say, it may take longer than you expect if you don't already have a job offer.
Congratulations though, it's a great feeling, and the first step....

Hi Syed,
Regarding timing; a lot also depends on which INZ branch your application is going through as the timings seem to vary quite a bit.
I guess you've already found out a bit more about what INZ does after your EOI has been selected through your other posts. Your EOI should be assessed within a three month time frame, upon gaining a "Decision Successful" your ITA should arrive shortly.
Be careful about doing certain things before you get the ITA as they have a limited validity. The medicals for instance, are only valid for three months and the police checks I believe (from the UK/Europe at least), for four months. Sorry, not sure about the term of validity for IELTS, perhaps someone else on here knows ?
What you can do though, is get your paperwork together, i.e.; written proof of everything you have claimed in your EOI. Examples can be: birth certificates, job reference letters to prove the time you have worked somewhere and your position there, proof of enduring relationship in case of a partner etc.. Also make sure your passport(s) are valid for a sufficient amount of time so that they don't run out during the application as this can be tricky to fix.
You can look for a job at any time during the process as if you do manage to get a job offer, all you have to do is let INZ know and give them the information they require, and your application should then be fast tracked.
I would say it's always risky coming over without a strong financial basis, but this is entirely personal. Some people come here with very little to their name and still manage okay, but I would suggest trying to save as much as you can prior to arriving as the initial period and setting up a new life is often a costly affair. Don't forget that you should budget extra money for things like bonds for rentals and set up costs for services.
Good luck !

Unfortunately I pressed the Enter key prematurely, wasn't quite done yet :o ! Just wanted to add this:
Ideally, but again this is very personal, I think it would be a good idea to budget enough money to survive for at least three months without an income, that way the pressure isn't too great if finding the job takes a bit longer than hoped for. If you do a search on this forum on 'cost of living', I'm sure you'll find many helpful (and some undoubtedly scary !) posts on this subject.
There are also links to pages where you can make rough calculations of cost of living in NZ (just did a quick search and here is the one from this site: http://www.emigratenz.org/cost-of-living-in-new-zealand.HTML). These tend to show different costs according to your way of life (i.e. frugal, modest or good living), we always aimed for the highest option to give us as much leeway as possible. These should give you a rough idea of what you may need.
Hope all this helps, happy researching and good luck !
