I've bought my tickets for my first trip back to the US to visit friends and family over Thanksgiving.

A few months ago I canceled my American private insurance. The premiums were just getting to be too much for a 'just in case' we need to return.

Just wondering if any one has any suggestions on companies to look at. I just did an on line quote for Southern Cross for about $260 for a month of coverage.

I'd be interested in who people found good to deal with and who you might recommend. I'm not particularly worried, its just I can't risk being in America without health coverage in case some idiot runs me over or I get an appendicitis (or given my track record, I break something on myself during an adventure).

thoughts?

You could try the AA Travel Insurance, I used them for my trip back to the UK and they came up pretty reasonable.

It's also worth phoning your current insurance company that cover your house, contents, car and asking if they do it as you may get a discount :nice1

Last time I went back to the States I got coverage through a website...www.good2go.co.nz

It was cheaper than State and Southern Cross and was recommended by Lonlely Planet.

And, yea you gotta have coverage when going back.....
