Does anyone has experience with INZ Beijing Branch? My smc application was sent from Bangkok to Beijing branch for processing. I don't have a job offer but claimed bonus points for an occupation in the long-term skills shortage list. Grateful if someone could tell me something about the Beijing branch's processing timescale.

There is no heading for PR VISA on this site
My application will be processed in Beijing or Shanghai,
Is there any way to inform INZ to process my application in Shanghai, as I live near Shanghai.

Hi green25,
Do you know why your application was sent from Bangkok to Beijing?

From a PDF on the NZIS (http://www.immigration.govt.nz/NR/rdonlyres/EDE93E50-160B-4732-8713-2181A340F91F/0/Appendices.pdf) website.

The list of Skilled Migrant Category receiving offices for offshore applications is as follows:

Bangkok - for applicants residing in Cambodia, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Oman, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, and all other Middle Eastern countries.
Beijing - for applicants residing in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea.
London - for applicants residing in Africa, Europe, UK, USA, and North Marian Islands.
New Delhi - for applicants residing in India and Sri Lanka.

Here the explaination to my own inquiry

If you follow this link

you will find very easily the information about NZI office...
I am sure my application will be processed in Shanghai,
Again the processing fee in Beijing and Shanghai are not same (dont know why)
The processing time is also fast, as Beijing also deal with applicants from other countries...(I will be lucky if processed in Shangahi)

Hope this can help

Are you going for skilled migrant though, or a work visa? I put in UK citizen, living in Shanghai, skilled migrant. It said Beijing as the processing place, as my link from NZIS said.

Hi green25,
Do you know why your application was sent from Bangkok to Beijing?

Bangkok office informed that all new smc processing ceased after 30 June 2007 because of staff movement, i.e., shorthanded. I sent mine in on 20 July 2007 not knowing this. Anyway, they collected my fees and said my application would be given priority processing in Beijing that has the capacity.

HI Chiba
I think I will be processed in Beijing as well, not a good sign all:wah
I am sure there will be many delays and without any logical reasons...

I can be an optimistic only and hope for the best, wish NZ embassy do things in NZ ways, not in Chinese ways which painful.

Hi,
I can't offer any advise because my OH & I are in a similar , and even worse situation.
My husband submitted his EOI on 10/09/07 with 185 points, with job offer in long term skills shortage, with accredited NZ employer.
Eoi selected 12/09/07
Still waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are English Expats living & working in Hong Kong. The EOI is being assessed in Bangkok & if, & when, we get the ITA, we have been told that we have to submit it either ito Beijing or Shanghei.
We are getting more frustrated by the day because we know that if we were living at home in England, we would have received (& been able to return) the ITA by now.
If anyone has any positive experiences of the EOi/ITA process in Bangkok/Beijing, we would really like to read them!

Hi,
Just want to share my experience with INZ Beijing. I am a Malaysian and applying under the Skilled Migrant category, no job offer with 135 points.

I submitted my ITA to Bangkok on 2nd May. Then on 2nd July I received a letter from INZ informing me that my application has been transferred to Beijing due to the staff movements at Bangkok branch.

After a very looooong silence, sometime in October I decided to follow the advise from one of our friends (so sorry I can't remember his name : Mr Who?) of this forum to send an email to our case officer if we need to know the status. My case officer is Ms Trina Kuo and as suggested by Mr Who I wrote a very humble and polite email to her enquiring about the status of my application. And was surprised the following day she gave a reply telling me that she's just about to process my application. Thanks Mr Who, you're right! You will feel good after sending the email. She probably responded because of my email or was really about to process my application. I replied with another nice, polite email thanking her for her prompt reply and other few nice words...

After 1 week she sent me an email to arrange for an interview and was set to the 21st of December (had to wait almost 2 months for the interview after the date was set). She also sent a list of questionnaires that I have to complete and email back to her in one week. The questionnaires were mostly the interview questions shared by many of our friends on this forum (Why NZ, Barriers, Jobs etc.).

After waiting patiently, on the 21st December Ms Trina called and she basically went through some of the questionnaires which I emailed earlier, for clarification. She also interviewed my husband and took about 15minutes in total. It wasn't that bad after all.

The night before the interview my husband and I were very nervous and we rehearsed the questions posted my our members and their answers. But were quite surprised that she only went through the questionnaires/answers provided earlier. Our case officer also said it will take around 1 month before a decision is made.

I hope my sharing helps those who are waiting responses from INZ Beijing. It's a long wait, but just hang in there friends..

Hoping for the best now..

Lilah

My application has been forwarded to Shanghai Office. Shanghai office has nice staff (There is one great man over there who is quite helpful to me) and their contact details can be found on shanghai branch website. While you can not find Beijing Branch employee's contact on their website. From EOI to ITA everything is going fine. I was afraid of Beijing office as Beijing office is under heavy load, but because I live in south China, one very sensible person in INZ send my application to Shanghai Office. I will submit my ITA during First week of Feb and will update you all...

Best of luck

Just to share my experience so far.

I'm a Singaporean living in Singapore and my EOI was processed by the Bangkok branch when it was selected in August 2007. Three months later my ITA came (after some email exchanges) and I was told to send my ITA to Shanghai.

I'm currently waiting for NZQA to certify my degree. From what I've read here in this forum, NZQA can take a few months to get back to you and since medical certificates are only valid for three months I'm going to wait another month before I start to get them done.

Hadn't seen this thread before and now I'm a bit worried... As informed by the INZ office in Bangkok, our application is to be submitted to Beijing (we live in Hong Kong). Our Bangkok contact - who, by the way, is very responsive - warned us that there is a heavy workload in Beijing. Our ITA indicated that we have not yet been assigned a case officer. When I asked Bangkok when we should expect to be assigned a case officer, the response was 1-2 months. I hope we don't actually need a case officer...

Anyway, I have a job offer in hand asking us to be in Christchurch by May 1. We expect to submit our application package by March 10. I suppose it is wishful thinking to expect our application to be turned around that quickly. Any estimates as to how long we will be waiting? Thanks!

Hi Bozeman,

I wouldn't worry too much.

We have submitted our ITA (without job offer) to Beijing on Nov 9, 2007 and received a confirmation letter with name of the CO early December (it was dated Nov 29). The target date was May 9, 2008. Early Feb we wrote to the CO asking for a decision a few weeks earlier (to meet our moving plans in July 2008). She responded immediately and we are now scheduled for an interview next Monday and expect an outcome by April 8.

With a job offer you will get fast tracked and do not need an interview. Your timing from march 10 to May 1 is tight but seems realistic and achievable.

Good luck!!

Hi Holm,
Yes! We've got our PR :). Wanted to share with you all earlier but so many things have been happening after we received the news on the 21st January (exactly 1 month after the interview), and just didn't get the chance to email. So excited now and nervous too. Suddenly everything seems to be moving very quickly, house sold and now worried on how to break the news to my employer. We still have not decided on the date to move yet. I can't thank you all enough on the postings in this forum which have helped me a lot in this journey. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For those who are still waiting for the news from Beijing, I wish you all the very best and just be patient. I hope you will make it too :)

Glad to hear you've got your PR already. Congratulations! I'm now into my eight month of waiting. Still not a word from Beijing. Very disappointing. Might have to switch my NZ dreams to others.

Hi Green25,

We submitted our ITA to Beijing early November 07 and by end of the month we were informed of the name of our case officer. We are now expecting a decision before then end of March (just had our interview, as we applied without job as well).

If you do not know who is your case officer by now something is wrong. I would call INZ in Beijing, Bangkok or/and NZ to figure out where you are stuck.

If you know your CO, get in touch and ask how far thing are. We did that and now things move very fast!!

Good luck,
Holm

Hi holm188,

Thanks for your advice. I do know my CO. In November 2007, I did email him and he said that processing generally takes 6 months. Looks like my case is a tough one for them to decide. Could be two of my family members did not have the desired levels of medical fitness.

Guys,
I was told to send my application to Shanghai and when I talked to my EOI officer, she told me that it would be transfered from there to Beijing. I don't know why, but can anyone estimate how long would it take to get a decision? I don't have a job offer.
Thank you
AM

AM,

Our letter confirming the reception of the ITA said to expect a decision 6 months after INZ has received the ITA.

From my experience it takes about 1 to 2 months to handle the case, including interview, but without major issues. So actually the CO will probably look at the file only about 4 months after having received it. This means that if you need to submit further evidence you will only be asked that 4 to 5 months after your ITA has been received.

Good Luck!!!

Hi Lilah,
I just got an email from my case officer regarding my interview, that will be held next month.
I remember reading at the time, that the interviews are held in Bangkok/China. From what you wrote, I understand it was done by phone.
Did you ask for it, or that is how it goes?
Thanks, Diana

Lilah,
Thanks for the answer. I hope you're on your way to NZ by now :)

Green25,
For how long is the WTR? And how long you have until you need to arrive to NZ?
And how long did it take from the interview to get it?
Sorry for all the questions..It's just that I feel a bit out..I started the process 2 years ago, and in the mean time we had a baby girl and had no time to think about it or being involved. And suddenly we got an announce about the interview, and now I'm starting to look for information again.
Of course I hope to get PR ;) ,but I'm being realistic, since I did nothing to get a job there, I'm afraid we'll also get WTR..
Thanks

Hi dianah,

No problem, I'll answer any questions you might have. My WTR under the SMC category is for 9 months in NZ to find a skilled job from any employer. I must apply to Beijing within 3 months from the date of the invitation. Once visa is stamped on passport, I have another 3 months to travel to NZ and upon arrival, the visa will be converted to the 9-month work permit. PR will be given once I have a job offer with the condition that I work 3 months in that job.

Don't panic, what happened in my case might not be true of yours. You do have a valid reason, i.e., having a baby. Furthermore, my case has some medical issues which can only be waived if I have a job. Anyway, a WTR is not that bad. It came just 10 days after the interview. My spouse is also given the WTR.

From an email I received from them today, it seems that if we get the WTR, it will be valid for 6 months only, since we applied before April 2007..
BTW, in which field do you work? Me and my husband are from the IT field, so we hope it will help us..
