That is Ontario, Canada.
You know the land of snow and ice and polar bears.
Just joined your forum for purely selfish reasons, hoped to get some answers to a question on electral systems, will post a question in that forum section shortly.
Have over 6 decades of history behind me and I still try to make a few $ to put groceries on the table from farming.

Thanks for the welcome.
I did not get any answers though. Guess no one wants to talk about your political situation.
Messages floating around Ontario indicate you have a real mess with appointed people as speaker of the house and leaders of your parties.
Sure does not sound very democratic from what we read.
Sounds like the referendum here will be rejected, everyone is quite happy to stay with our "first past the post" system even if it is not perfect.
All the stories about the troubles in New Zealand, Belgium, Holland etc that have MMP systems with all those who just do not want any change has polls showing only 26% in favour of a change.

Hope you get back to the old system as the latest message is indicating you all want to do.

Hi Bill,

I'm sorry you didn't get the responses you were hoping for, but I doubt it has to do with an unwillingness to discuss NZs' political situation per se.

Rather I wonder if this is the right place for your questions ? Most on this forum are either in the process of moving to New Zealand or have been here a short(ish) time, seems to me you need responses from people who have been here long enough to be thoroughly acquainted with the political system to have an educated opinion on it ?

What with settling in and building a whole new life and all, I have to confess (and it's probably bad, I know :o), that politics is not very high on our agenda at all, especially since AFAIK one cannot vote until having been in NZ for at least a year. Personally I would need to have been here for quite some time to become familiar enough with the political system to form an opinion of any worth.

Thanks Silver.
Had hoped to get some comments directly as I suspect some of (or Most of) the 'letters' that are being sent around Ontario about how bad the system is in New Zealand are at the very least exagerated.
Any way the decision has to be made on Wednessday and indications are it will not pass. People here are afraid of something different so will continue to elect "winners" with 40% or less popular vote with over 50% of the seats. They then go on to govern us as if they had 100% right ideas and everyone agreed with them.

Thanks,
Bill
