Hi,
we had our medicals yesterday in Carlisle, Dr MacFadzien, £550 for xrays/medicals/bloods for 2 adults and a child, I didn't think this was too bad.
I was worried about my waist measurement as I had it between 41" and 43", so I didnt eat all day (meds at 5pm) but when they measured it it was way below
I would recommend them if you can get up to Carlisle.
Cheers
Nick

I am a tiny bit fuming at this minute.!!! I've just returned from my medical, here in sunny Scotland. There are only two panel doctors in this town and they both charge a fortune. I got my xray done at the local hospital last week - that was 95 quid.....today I went to the panel doctor and got my BP checked, blood sample taken, opened my mouth to let the doc look at my teeth, popped onto a set of scales, got my chest sounded with the stethescope......FIFTEEN MINUTES later I was finished and handed a bill for 280 quid........it's absolutely ridiculous. Why doesn't the NZIS have some guide prices in place so everyone has to charge relatively the same!??? can't believe how little the doc did for all that money! I'd get him struck off! haha. Oh, he did sign my photograph to say it was me....doesn't look like me now though...I'm bright red, grimacing and there is steam coming out of my ears........grrrrrrrrr....................!!!

In Scotland it is worth shopping around between regions as the prices vary greatly. We saved about £500 on a family of 5 by going to a different region!:)

i am from south africa and the medicals here is around R2000 per adult and R600 per child, i was told that the medicals are cheaper in new zealand so i decided that i will do a little check up here by a provinsal doctor then i will do a full check up when in nz

This is really useful because I assumed it would be the same price everywhere.

I have only rung one place each (medical and xray) in Aberdeen and was told 280 pounds for the medical and 120 pounds for the x-rays. So on Monday I will ring the other place in Aberdeen.

By the way, is it just the one form you take to both medical and X-ray: Form 1007, called "MEDICAL & CHEST X-RAY CERTIFICATE
AUGUST 2005".

thanks

:cheers LOL - I can relate to the Hot air and steam from ears bit.......I am from SA as well and well in relation to the UK pound our costs are just and insane.... But you bite the bullet knowing you leaving soon______ Smile at the doctor_______ pay and leave clutching the precious x-ray and cert telling all you ok.

then you wait for the NZIS to tell you, you OK - LOL
So all in all - YOU PAY LOTS OF PEOPLE TO ".........WAIT>>>"..:nice1

LOL
Have a great day all:cheers

Who did you use? I am over in Welcome Bay, so would be interested if it is local.

Hi,
We live not far from glasgow. Any recommendations for cheapest meds? Sounds like Carlisle may be our best option
Thanks.

Think there are a few places in Glasgow that do them but not sure of prices. We looked at it a while ago cos couldn't get appointment in Edinburgh but ended up with a cancellation. One thing to point out is that our panel doctor in Edinburgh wanted x-rays from specific radiologist - only one offering service funnily enough :) Don't know if this applies to them all  but might be worth checking out
Best of luck

I’ve just had a ring around locally (within 25 miles) and have found the prices of medicals, x-rays and blood tests combined, to vary by a whopping £195. That’s almost buy 2 get one free.:nice1
Watch out some were quoting ex VAT

We paid £260 each at a mega-swish private hospital in Kensington, London - expensive for a 30-minute exam and X-ray, and not the cheapest I could find in the south-east, but there was no waiting list and I could even have had a same-day appointment.

For £220 I could have gone to an NHS doc, had three seperate appointments for blood tests, X-ray and exam, and had to book 10 weeks in advance. £260 was a bargain in comparison!

Medicals in West Sussex very close to Gatwick Airport; £235 per person inclusive of, X-rays, blood tests and VAT.
Dr Chapman 0845 070 0733 only works Tuesdays & Thursdays, but currently has no waiting list.
If you arrived at Gatwick airport British rail, or national express coach station I’m pretty sure it would be under a tenner in a taxi.
Hope that helps:nice1

UPDATE

We have been for medicals with Dr Chapman at Gatwick this morning and we can confirm that he’s a really nice old boy, highly recommended.
£235 each (medical, X-ray & bloods no vat)
Provided the X-rays and blood tests come back ok we can finally send off the ITA.:nice1

That's not a bad price, James. Ours cost us 1065 pounds for three adults and 1 child.
