the moral being.......be careful what you ask for!!!

I was uhmming, and ahhing, well, we were uhmming and ahhing re. moving to NZ so I was saying to myself a sign that we are doing the right thing would be good.......

well, perhaps I should have been more specific.

My hubbie was made redundant on Thurs......... this is redundancy no... ehm, I've lost count!!!

What is most annoying is he wasn't looking for a job when they approached him about it and it was such a good opportunity that he couldn't have turned it down, more money, 20 minutes from home, promotion...... the 20mins from home being the thing that swung it as opposed to the nearly 2hr each way commute he had before.

I think I posted before that 4days before he left his old company the new one suddenly did a U-turn...... but didn't tell him themselves, the job then moved to Manchester [we live in south wales]. But they said that if the office by us didn't open they would help us with relocation to Manchester. At that point his old boss was happy to have him back but the big boss said no, he had made it plain he didn't see his future as being with them. Fair enough.

So 2mths into the job they've made him redundant. Needless to say we will be seeing our solicitor on Tuesday.

So we are at the moment going to get the roof on our house fixed, do the minimum we need to to it and get out to NZ asap as I think that is what we need to do. The UK sucks.

Please tell me that this sort of thing isn't rife in New Zealand?

A very fed up Myrkk who apologises for the pants spelling and punctuation...I'm not in a good punctuation place at the mo.:(

How awful to be messed about like this, I sorry you have to go through this! I've only been made redundant once, and it was kind of painful, but it did turn out to be a good thing in the end.

Maybe in the long run, good things might come off this for you? And you can use the redundancy pay for something nice and treat yourselves to a holiday?

In the meantime, I hope the NZ plans shape up the way you need them to :)

Myrkk - you have every right to sound off - s*d the punctuation. Even if the same things happen in NZ you will have chosen to be there and they've got a better rugby team too (:wah )
Can't say it'll be all right, can't help at all - but my goodness, what an absolutely fantastic reason to give someone both barrels. You go girl!

Well, it's definately a sign! I know it's easy for me to say - but every cloud does have a silver lining and everything will come right for you.

All best wishes, Carol

How annoying and frustrating but maybe it was meant to be. When one door closes a window always opens (or so I have been told) so perhaps this is the NZ 'window of opportunity' for you.

Good luck

cheers for the understanding guys. If it were only once or twice then it wouldn't be such a (&(*&(£ but between redundancies and companies taking him on knowing they are financially up the swannee and going bust we are nearer to double figures now.

The stressy thing is we needed the money to get the house done up to a point where it is saleable.... we're in a do-oer upper.... but we've decided that hubbie is going to apply for contracting jobs in the meantime until we get the house done up and then we're jumping ship.

May as well be broke and happy in NZ rather than broke and miserable in the UK.:D

Myrkk, you know you mentioned about signs? Our path to NZ was littered with them, and now we are here there are even more things that are quite eerie.
The house we have bought was lived in by the Birchall family (MIL's maiden name) and was known as the Comer house in a past guise - which just happens to be my deceased aunt's surname! It is an Irish name so not too common I suppose..... amazing what you find if you believe in this stuff.

It is up to you, but we are loving it here, have a lovely home to move into in a few weeks and are now totally feeling relaxed about the whole thing.

Good luck you lot, get out of Wales and get down here!! :nice1

Myrkk - I'm exactly the same about waiting for signs when making my own mind up is just too hard but that really does sound like an obvious sign... I'm a great believer in everything happens for a reason so have no doubt that the horrid time you might be having now is a path that needs to be trodden to achieve the greater goal of being happy (and maybe broke but still happy) in NZ... One thing's for sure, I think we'll all agree here, that broke and happy in NZ is going to be much better than broke and miserable in the UK!

Sorry to hear about the hassles you've had Myrkk. Just go for it and look forward to the rest of your life in NZ. Stay positive and move forward. I hope everything works out for you and in a couple of years you will look back on it and think of it as a blessing in disguise, when you are happy in nz!

Good luck

Helen.

but that really does sound like an obvious sign...

hehehe, it does doesn't it. I've always been a bit thick skinned........ they probably thought it best to just bat me over the head with it rather than be subtle :o

I've had my tarot cards out on this to and they come back so positive......... so I think I just need to sit back and chill but I worry that telling anyone about our plans is going to jinx it all.........at the same time as wanting to tell everyone lol

Born worrier:D
