Me again anticipating problems. We are all set to submit ITA but as suspected police check from time spent in Africa back in 1998 not back and unlikely it will be soon. We want to submit asap as OH is supposed to start job in November (if we sell the house). So we got letters from our employers as we went there as volunteers through VSO and they basically state if we had done anything out of line they would know - more of a character reference confirming our good conduct, employment etc. We have receipts and contact details of the guy we've been talking to at the relevant embassy. Looking on NZIS it says you have to collect evidence that you have tried to get police checks so can tick that box but also ask about statutory declaration that you committed no crime etc - anyone know what this is and how you would go about it? We've asked case officer but thought I'd ask here too - usually quicker response :D

Thanks
Karen

You could ask your solicitor who is dealing with your house sale maybe?

Ours was quite helpful when we were selling in Scotland - did all the certifying of documents that we needed for free as we were already a customer, which was nice.

If overseas police clearances are unavailable for any person aged 17 and older included in the application, a statutory declaration must be provided stating whether the applicant has been convicted, or found guilty of, or charged with, any offences against the law in the country or countries for which police clearance certificates are unavailable.

Check out this post for details on what you need to do:-http://www.emigratenz.org/forum/showpost.php?p=81897&postcount=4
