Hello,
My first post, Thank you everybody for sharing their experience. This forum is really helpful.
I have submitted an EOI with 145 points, no job offering in NZ , skills shortage area. I have been selected in the last pool.
I'm a IT contractor working remotely since 3 years for a US Web company and I'll keep this job when moving to NZ. I wonder if NZIS will take this existing job in account during their assessment process? Anybody with such case?
Cheers
Syed

Welcome to the Forum
I am also from south China but not native Chinese. I work in a US company, and fortunatly selected in the same pool as you.
We are in the same boat...let hope for the best
Regarding question, I dont know much, but I think you can continue your job, and you have to work in new zealand for at least 3 month in a job related to your major or qualification to retain your PR. Please read more in this forum and check the INZ website for details.
Good luck

Hi Syed,
Not Chinese as well, I'm a French living with the family there since 2 years. We really like being here but we don't see us settle down on the long term. Too crowded, too much pollution.
It seems that the whole process will take between 12 to 24 months so we have still some time to enjoy the good spicy food and visit more countryside.

Do you mean NZIS to count your experience (yes they would) or that you have a 'job offer' for the one you are currently working for (no they won't - unless they have a NZ office?).
If you are being selected without a job offer then I would keep it like that as you won't be subject to a section 18A (work in NZ job for 3 months).
The aim of NZIS is to bring skills into NZ to help NZ, if you continue to work for the US company then how will this benefit NZ (other than taxes of course)? So if it was me, I would keep this information to myself.
My comments are assuming that you do this job full time and are planing on continuing to do this?

To IanW99,
Yes I will keep this Job full time. My intent once settled is to set up a small IT team (therefore an office) in NZ to fulfill the web development needs.
My wife also in the IT field will get a local job. Perhaps we should switch/redo the EOI on her name.

If you have been selected and NZIS have accepted your points then the only advantage of swapping to your wife would be if she had a job which would increase the priority on processing. So don't think that it would be particularly useful to do now?
If your wife can secure a job in NZ then I would definitely get in touch with your case officer, they may allow you to switch principal applicant or advise you on the best way forward e.g. may offer a work visa whilst your PR is being processed?

Hi MBI
Nice to here about you, yes; it is difficult to settle here, I have been here since 5 years...too many people, too many poor people, too many politics and so on...
I am also in IT industry and lets hope for the best.
While your PR is being processed, I suggest you search the NZ government policies for opening a tech company.
I am sure you will get support from the government and then you hire people including your wife, pay tax to the government, contribut to the NZ economy and so on...
Just fell free, as NZ will be your own home, your own country, your own people ..NZ is not like the place we are...
Wish you good luck and keep in touch
