They say we are so overdue for a big one its not funny!! All the councils have been having Civil Defense scenario days to come up with strategies.
My mum is on the council on the West Coast, SI and apparently when the earthquake hits(and it will!) they will have to rely on the East Coast of Australia to be the first to get to them as Canterbury will be too busy sorting themselves out and wouldnt be able to get across anyway!
The West coast have no fuel depots so flying etc would not be an option from Wellington and the like.
Good luck everyone!!:exit

LOL - I was fast off at that time Helen! I didn't feel a thing. Maybe Greenhills is more solid than Invercargill - or my beds just too comfy;)
Maybe it vibrated the supposedly rainy Sunday away:nice1
they forecast rain today and we got a beautiful calm sunny day - so I have been out riding with a friend from Edendale - originally from Wales (she rode Jester) - we went along the beach at Omaui, and the sea was calm, and the tide was out.
then I cut the grass later this afternoon.
Yesterday was sunny, but the wind got a bit strong in the afternoon. I got my apple trees planted, which I had grafted earlier at my propagation course.
I have had such a busy weekend that I recon that if one hit in Invercargill - I'd sleep right through it:laugh

So true Tanya - this evening I experienced exactly what " too close for comfort " feels like.. :uhoh I think because of the few recent ones, the rumblings and lahars on the North Island and that the two big quakes were pretty much either end of the country!! :exit

:roll well I have been busy.... I forgot GMT is UK time!
I was cutting the grass when the first hit - so a quake could have happened over the road and I doubt I would have felt or heard it.
The 11pm one - Jason felt it I was in the shower so I missed it again!:o
the clocks going forward really mixed me up this weekend, I didn't eat lunch and only realised that it was 7pm last night because I was hungry and Jason came out to ask why I had't started Tea:o --Doh -- because I was too busy trying to cut all the grass -- which he could -- but he's too lazy and threatens to hop on a plane to the UK if I push him too hard!
Apparently the rain is arriving today - I don't care I'll be stuck in an office:laugh

You get the impression that something is looming. As you say, there have been numerous quakes and stuff around the north island, albeit small. With Ruapehu unleashing some pressure last week, you wonder what is going on underneath our feet don't you?!

Well this morning my little mirror was shimmering(best description I can think of) with the slightest movement. Later mid morning, the glasses on the welsh dresser started tinkling. Anybody around Pram or Raumati pick anything up? So maybe you're right that things are beginning to liven up.
