I guess its OK but I think I'd feel too exposed in that shower, there might not be any neighbours but what happens when they are harvesting the grapes?
I think I'd prefer it if it had a sea view.... :exit

Your middle one would be my pick out of those three, although I wouldn't want to live on the North Shore, so it isn't my dream home. The last one has the most ridiculously large oven for a family home! Could you imagine having to heat that up just to cook a batch of brownies...
Isn't it odd that a lot of these very expensive houses all seem to have the same standard Mitre 10 vanity units in the bathrooms though? I really don't like them.
The one I chose in St Marys isn't that close to the motorway - I run past it and I've never noticed a lot of traffic noise. I do prefer old houses with lots of character - or very modern with lots of glass and light, as long as someone else cleans off all the smears!

Blue - NZ is obsessed with blue. If its not the kitchen, its the leather suite, or the bathroom or the bedroom or on quite a few occasions all four!!
What is it with blue?
Moorf
3rd October 2007, 12:46 PM
Ah yes, the good old Kiwi blue - haven't lived in a house without at least one room done out in it... urrggh...
And, is it just me or are Kiwis pretty lax when it comes to cutting in - seems all our houses had shoddy paintwork and one even had paint on the bathroom mirror that must have been there for a couple of decades!!

Jo,
To me that house looks too much like what you get in the sprawling developments all over the US to be very appealing to me. But then I like the odd, quirky, middle-of- nowhere, half falling down, covered in vegetation houses (in theory, not practice obviously).

dilanium
1st January 2008, 09:06 AM
it's huge though
that it is. And it is much bigger than what we normally see here. My only problem is that it seems more manufactured rather than organic in nature.
In the developments around here all the house look exactly the same on winding roads, such that if you couldn't see the road signs you would be lost in a minute.
Nothing wrong with large houses though. :D

Finest house in Welly?
http://www.nz.open2view.com/Property/163247
Not sure actually, because there's very little garden, but if location is everything then this is a real killer. The bathroom was the first bit that made me think, "if only", but then I saw the "sleep out" and was totally sold. :yes
It may not be palatially huge, but everything is absolute top quality.

It has the largest collection of uncomfortable chairs I have ever seen, not sure about the art work - thats probably due to my lack of refinement rather than theirs to be fair. "The richer you are, the worse the furniture." - Chiba's first law of real estate.
Chiba's second law states, "the more architecturally cool your house is, the more your furniture will look like it came from your granny's parlour."
I tell you, the number of times I've seen beautiful houses that look like modern art museums, only to have Laura Ashley sofas plonked in them. Criminal!

Holy Moly!
I saw that house the last time it was for sale by the original owners, I think he was also the architect, and it looked great!
Obviously he had modern furniture in there rather than what's there now. I can't understand why these people bought it knowing that their furniture would look seriously out of place:no And they haven't been there very long either, maybe they've figured out that it doesn't get much sun?
Love the other glass box too.

Yes it is - small world eh! They're at the other end of our road!
It's been on the market a couple of months now - they've done a fabby job of restoring it (Brit guy and Kiwi wife - young family).
But... it's a bit of a dark house - very early and unusual (as in 2-storey - and historical) settlers place with smaller windows and a bit of a rat run - hence the need for fireplaces in just about every room! I think that's why it's not selling fast - although it will definitely go.
It used to be the old butchers and the coldhouse is still evident outside.
Also a bit over-priced for round here IMHO - I think they want mid-$600's upwards.. I'd say it's probably more like a $550k round here....
