Hello!
I'm very green to all this type of stuff, but the more i trawl through the forums the more appealing NZ gets! I was hoping i would be able to pick some sparkys' brains that have already gone through this whole immigration process.
I've started to fill out my EOI for the skilled migrant visa and i'm unsure how the british qualifications meet NZ's. I have 2360 part 1 & 2, 2391 & 2400 but does this class as a 'basic New Zealand Qualification'? Also due to running a business (with my good old dad) from starting in the industry 11 years ago and then going out on my own, has anyone got any suggestions about what to do for recognised work experience, is it worth getting letters from my customers?
and finally..(sorry as i'm sure there will probably be more!) Is it possible to get in without an offer of employment, i think i should be around 135 / 140 without employment on the EOI but from what i read it doesn't look that promising.
Thanks so much in advance, any hints and tips welcomed with open arms!
Cheers,
Tim.

Hi Tim
I am in the same boat, I am a sparky in the UK, I have the same qualifications as you, I checked through various links and found the 236-2 is recognised in NZ,and qualifies for a code 3 qualification, it will be clearer when you fill out the EOI.
also when I filled out the form I had 135 points and was picked from the pool three days later, we have not heard anything yet,
Could be a while, have you a job offer, where are you looking to settle, PM me if you want to have a chat about NZ, we are looking to emigrate with four children and start a fresh.
I also run my own business, but want a different way of life..
Good Luck, Rob

Dont know about the electrician side of things but im a sheet metal worker and didnt have a job offer .Had to have my qualifications pre-assessed for EOI then when i filled out forms for residencey i had to have a full assessment (maybe its worth paying for this 1st rather than a pre-assessment )So if your quals are good and they need you , you can get round the job offer bit. When i had my telephone interview they asked "what if i didnt find work in my field" so i let them know i have always done my own sales being in business etc.

Hi Guys
I am a Sparky just nearing the end of the process. We had 130 points and got fished out. When you receive ITA (Invitation to Apply) you will also be asked for your qualifications to be assessed by NZQA (NZ Qualification Assessment). You may want to get on to this now as it can take up a bit of time. Also you need to contact EWRB (Electrical Workers Registration Board) and they will tell you what exams you need to take when you arrive in NZ. You will need letters from both these organisations when you hand in the ITA. Please PM if you need any more help.
