If it has, then take hope from the email I received today from my case officer....

<snip>

With your medical certificates, because they have only just run out, you only need to get your doctor to resign your medical certificates to say that there have been no changes.
I hope this helps.

Hi Helen,
I can confirm this. Some people I know (they actually made the move to Chch last week :nice1 ) had this happen to them. They're medicals were a good couple of months out of date before they received their ITA. Were given the same advice, had their medical centre resign/date the documents and they were accepted no problem.

Seems a bit weird, but hey if it works and saves us all a lot of money, who cares :nice1

Yep, will certainly be great as we can do without the additional medical costs. And am assuming our doc in UK will re-sign the docs as its not like he's gonna make any money from examining us again!!

You are in NZ Helen! How could your doctor in the UK re-sign your medical when he or she has not seen you since?

Not that he can't and not that you are unfit now but I would think if he wanted to certify you fit, he would have to examine you, right?

To fly back for the medicals sounds absurd so if you can get it re-signed while you were still here means he did not re-examine you!

And NZIS is willing to accept that?

Shagen - my casee officer said that we could send them back to UK and have them re-signed as the time period from expiration of our medicals is short.

I suspect it will be up to the individual doctor... I shall be asking him if I can send the docs back to him for re-dating, stamping and signing. He's on hols at the moment though... hmm wonder if he's in NZ!! :laugh

I actually spoke to my case officer in the end as was confused.. he has now suggested that we can take our medicals to a Dr in NZ and THEY will resigned them without re-examination as they only ran out 6 weeks or so ago...

Curiouser and Curiouser!

Well, to update you on the meds situation.. we today got a call from NZIS to say that now we can't have our med's re-signed by either our original doc or a NZ one...

Our arguement was that we had our meds just before we left the UK and haven't left NZ since then so we would therefore not be bringing in anything from outside (you still with me?!!).... our Case Officer agreed but seems his boss ain't having it! Oh well, was worth a try.. off to book meds.. local medical centre said they can do it at a moments notice!!

Wish we could get that far :?

Sandra - we were selected at the beginning of AUGUST so you are probably in for a similar time-line if our theory of "you're here and sorted with visas" applies .. our ITA arrived 24 Dec! Applying same timelines I should imagine yours will arrive mid March? Obviously this is only based on my CSE Maths calculation :laugh

The sooner the better eh! :cheers

Moorf

I had my medicals done at the Riccarton Clinic tel 03 343 3661

costs are

Dr fees 95
Xray 55
Bloods 15

You can do this in 2 visits and the doctors are familiar with the format required by NZIS. Blood, Xrays done in the same place, which was helpful

cheers

Abdul

I am in a similar situation arriving on a work permit in Oct last year and now applying for residence...just over 6 months.

My case officer said she will accept our police certificate and said that our X-ray certificate was valid for 1 year...we only needed to redo the medicals and not get another x-ray.

Our problem was that the originals were at the New Zealand High Commission in Ottawa, Canada as part of the work permit submission. I sent an e-mail to the Consular Officer and they were willing to send the originals to NZIS via diplomatic bag.

You could save if you shop around to get the medicals done. Mine cost $90 and my wife's cost $140...big difference.

Hope this helps...

Peter

Good News - I have just had an email from our case officer here in NZ confirming that you DO NOT have to have Xrays re-done if they are under 1 year old :clap :clap Whew - that saved a bit of $$ :nice1

This isn't made clear in the docs etc as it appears to lump "medicals" all together with xrays..

Just back from having medicals redone - bit of a swizz as the doc just copied over everything from the old form (which I took with me) and charged $145 for the pleasure!! Nothing different except I've gained a few pounds ( :eek and with all that dog walking too!!).

He did mention that he had just been sent the new medical forms and that they were HUGE - blood tests will now not only test for syphillus but also a multitude of other things relating to kidney, drug use, diabetes etc etc. Plus there is a very large section for smokers which he said works on a "packs per year" basis which he joked about the maths side of it being a nightmare.. then if you do smoke you have another huge section to go through and additional respiratory tests :eek

He felt that this new medical would cost c. $400 - $500 instead of the current cost of c. $200.

Glad we got in just in time....
