Hi,
My OH will be going to the expo in October, and I understand that there are potential employers and agencies there. ( he is in the IT industry) could anyone give us advice on:
1. The best day to go (we were thinking Friday poss quieter)
2. What is the dress code like Smart casual or shirt and tie?
3. What should he take cv's or anything else?
Any help would be appreciated

Hi Helen
We went last year. Friday is definitely the quietest day - get there as early as you can (they let us in before the doors officially opened). Wear something casual and cool, it gets very hot inside. I would take a couple of copies of your CV but to be honest most companies gave out email addresses and asked for the CV's to be sent that way - less likely to lose them than paper copies, plus they have the advantage of knowing they will only get CV's from people who are genuinely interested.
Hope this helps.

I would take a electronic copy of your CV also, memory stick etc. Personally dresssing casual is fine but first impressions and all that.

Doesn't hurt to take it that way as well but be warned OH took his CV on memory stick but nobody wanted it - a lot of the stands/employees didn't even have computer/laptop access - almost everyone asked for it to be emailed with very few taking paper copies. They just end up with a huge pile of them. :no

The last one I went to, I had a couple of videoed interviews... I would suggest to dress smartly (but as they others say, it does get very hot in there!).

I am attending the London Expo. I have been advised that smart casual is the expected minimum. However, I think a suit would make a better impression so I will be taking one. I don't know how many people will be attending or how much time will be necessary to achieve all my goals so I plan to travel down on Friday and visit the expo in the afternoon and again for as much of Saturday as is needed. The Ibis still had rooms when I booked yesterday at £72 per night (0207-610-0880)
In addition to taking CVs, it was suggested to me that a photo (headshot) to go with them would be a good idea. It may then help recruiters to recall you more easily after the event. I recently had 16 passport-sized photos done (you need this many for all of the documents required when aplying to live and work in NZ) and I am thinking of taking them with me.
Hope this helps and good luck to us both :)
Alan.
