Hello all

My husband, little boy and I are looking to move to NZ.

Hubby is a teacher so is looking for jobs on the gazette website and is currently with an agency which seem very positive.

I am a Pharmacy technician with both community and hospital experience.

Both our jobs are on the Immediate shortage list but not on Long term.

I am applying for jobs at the moment. Have sent off for 1 at a hospital(who seemed quite positive) and 2 in retail pharmacies.

My question is if I am successful will it be possible to get a visa.

I am a bit baffled by the different routes.

Could I apply as a skilled migrant (I have BTEC and NVQ 3 qualifications, hubby has BA Hons and PCGE)

The work to residence option state the job offer has to be over $50,000 which it probably wouldn't be.

Could I be the one to get a job and then look for hubby to gain employment or realisitically will we have to hope for Hubby to get a job.

Hope that all makes sense

Sarah

Not sure about your qualifications but if your husband is a teacher then his qualifications should count (it only needs one of you sometimes). I wouldn't mind knowing what teaching agency he is so positive about if you don't mind my asking. I'm a teacher too and haven't heard a thing from any of the agencies I contacted!

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

Can't remember the name of the agency, we found it fron the TES site a couple of months back.

We did have to chase them for a response, but now they seem to be doing something.

He has had a telephone "interview" with the agency bloke and he seemed to think he would get a job easily.

Will ask hubby for name of agency and forward it to you.

what age do you teach? Also, where are you looking to live?

I may know a good agency but depends on the above response.

Tiggerefic you will have no problems getting in if your husband gets a job offer as he has a pgce especially if he teaches secondary, science, english , maths etc. I hvae just done the same thing (my partner is a teacher english), you are quite similar to my situation i am an analytical chemist by trade so i can't see why you would have problems. you jsut get a work permit under general work visa and do it that way, when you're there you can apply for PR this way. A work to residence visa can take a while to get I believe.

Would be interested in the name of the teaching agency if it's not Oasis; (only heard good about them but I'm in primary and they only deal with Auckland Schools for primary, and we prefer not to be in Auckland). Has your OH actually had any interviews? I also had phone 'interview ' which was very positive but no interviews - yet! Time ticking by for Feb 08 start....
