What happens now? My BSc has only been assessed at Level 6, and not comparable with a NZ bachelors degree.
My ITA pack tells me that I need to have a qualification at Level 7... how many points will I lose? I've looked at a points calculator but can't work it out...
<< panicking >>
As I am claiming points for an area of skills shortage (IT), I needed a full assessment. Where do I go from here? I tried a quick call to NZIS but as it is after 5pm, they have closed :uhoh
Anyone else been here?

hi,
when you say that it has been assessed as level 6 - is that provisional or full assessment? If its a full assessment then I think that there is an appeals procedure.
What is you degree in and where is it from if you dont mind me asking. Aslo how may points is your EOI based on?
Bets of luck

According to this from the NZIS website both level 6 and 7 gets 50 points?

No experience, just quoting what is says.
Good Luck,

found the links for appeals etc on
http://www.nzqa.govt.nz/for-international/qual-eval/international/faq.html#review
"Review of assessment
If you are dissatisfied with your assessment, you may seek a review.
The review fee is NZ$225.00
A request for a review, and the fee, must be received within twelve months of the date on the assessment report (otherwise, your request will be automatically declined and the fee refunded)
Two evaluators who were not involved in your assessment will reassess your qualifications
The review will be completed within twenty working days of the request and fee being received by NZQA, unless further information is required
NZQA will refund the review fee ONLY if the assessment result changes and this was not due to:
a change in qualification assessment guidelines, and/or
new documentation being provided in support of the review.

I assume that you are claiming bonus point for a degree in an long term skill shortage. If that is the case you will need a level 7.
If you would have been picked anyway between when you were picked and now based on your points without the bonus points then you can continue anyway - but confirm this with your case officer.

Thanks folks.
My EOI had 125 points, based on a degree and work in an an area of long term skills shortage. If I redo the points indicator and remove the qualification in the long term skill shortage, it still comes out to 120, so perhaps it will be OK?
My degree is a BSc from the Open University. It isn't a 'named' degree, just a BSc, but half the modules I took were IT-based, so I thought it would count.
As you say, a Level 6 qual is worth the same number of points - where is the sense in that??? If I appeal, it is another $125NZ, and another 2 weeks of nail-biting.
I guess my only option is to ring NZIS tomorrow. I don't have a case officer yet, so it will be the £1-per-minute line. Whoopee
I'll let you know what happens.....
Jane
Edited to add: it was the full assessment from NZQA

Still no progress. I rang NZIS today, spent god know how long holding on the phone, to be told that I need to email them the details. A Case Officer will review it and get back to me within 7 days....
If I re-do the Points Calculator, and don't include quals for skills shortage, I still come out with 120 points, so perhaps it will be ok....

Well, I heard back from NZIS this morning, and it is not good news. They are deducting all my bonus qualification and work experience points, and saying that unless I get a job offer I am back in the Pool...
I am trying to negotiate for a delay in submitting the ITA, to enable me to try and get a job offer in the next few weeks.... having said that, even if I get a job offer, if our house doesn't sell we would not be able to afford to move....
Feel pretty fed up today.

sorry to hear that this has happened. Have you considered going to the emigrate expo in Olypia. I think its this weekend. Have a chat to some recruiters.
Could you rent out the house for a while if you need to go quickly?
good luck
