Initially thought of leaving USA for good and applied for NZ permanent residency and was granted and we should be in NZ by feb, 2008 and if not PR validity will be lost.
However, situation here changed dramatically in US, and currently cannot leave the US because of family reasons. I guess I have to lose the NZ PR visa.
Did this happen to anyone?
Letting the PR status go after it has been granted.

I am assuming that your PR was granted on Feb 2007 and that Feb 2008 is the deadline for coming to NZ. If so, you can simply fly to NZ, turn around and immediately fly back to the US. You have 2 years (from Feb 2007) before your RRV expires. As long as you return to NZ before Feb 2009 you would be OK.

I have a friend who is due to come out on holiday to just that. She is in the UK and hasn't managed to sell her house. Once she gets that NZ stamp in her passport though she will have 2 years to make the move out here.

OK, that is something I think I have wrong then as I'd aways assumed you had a further 2 years.... that's what my friend thinks to, so I'd better let her know to look at it again! (you know what they say about people who assume...)

Ill PM you after work...we lost PR...had to let it expire, and managed to get it reinstated...very strict guidelines though.

It is a further 2 years, i.e., two years after your initial entry into the country after being granted PR. So says my passport, anyway.

Thanks Barry, so basically she will be coming out in November 2007 and getting her passport stamped. So she will have to be back by November 2009. :nice1

I think Barry is correct. I reread what it says on the RRV sticker. Either way though, you need to at least "touch base" in NZ before the one year limit is up.
