Having received our ITA having been picked out on the 1st September I'm just having a minor panic about overclaiming points.

I claimed for being on the OSL as an IT project manager. A job I have been doing for six years. However now I've really been digging into the operations manual it says you need an IT releated degree as well as the work experience to claim points for that role.

However if I ignore the points I claimed for this, I still get a total of 105 points (selection point was 100 on the 1st) through work experience and qualifications in a recognised trade (telecomms technician).

Question is do I ammend the ITA form and cross off the project manager experience or just carry on regardless?
Does make you wonder how much checking of the EOI goes on though because it is quite obvious in the qualifications section that I am not claiming for a degree.

Just going away for another panic...........

Hi there! This seems to be a common thing, and I'd call them if I was you. Can I ask when you got your packet? I was 100/105 on Sept. 1 too, but I am in the U.S. Good luck! :cool

Hi Andy,

We have been picked out of the pool on 1st September, arrived in Auckland on 10 November. Husband got 4 joboffers in 2 weeks, started his job on 5 January, now we have received our ITA last week.

Husband would get 50 points for qualifications, but our case officer tells us to let go of the 50 points for qualifications (we would still have 115 points left because of joboffer). She tells us it would only delay the process. The less points you claim, the faster everything will go. That 's what we hear from NZIS itself!

Cheers Lesly :P

I assume that is because they have to do less checks. :?

That 's right Moorf, that 's the reason why it goes faster. Sorry if I didn't make that clear in my first post. The more they have to check, the longer you wait.

We have decided to not claim points for the qualifications, and to just go for the residency with the joboffer. It took us a few sleepless nights to decide, but our case officer was very clear about it, so... :hopeso

Cheers,
Lesly

Hiya,

Just to add my tuppence worth; I've been working in IT for eight years now (analyst programmer) and I don't have an IT degree - mine's in French and German!

I was selected when the points were still quite high as I'm in NZ and had no issues with the lack of IT quals. I also had no problems with it when I applied for a work visa here. I now have PR here.

Good luck.
