Hello all.
Been lurking long enough and had to join in the fun. Everyone has written such great and helpful information, I hope I can return the favor. After 11 years in the US, 10 years of marriage, and newborn twin girls.... we're making a move back to NZ. We'll be posting our situation and our status as we move forward within the immigration post area.
Best,

Emily that is amazing as we currently live in Reston too... about 1 mile from the Reston Town Center. When did you travel down to NZ from NYC? How old were your twin boyz? Any advise?

What a small world! We have 2.5 year old boy/girl twins. We flew NYC - LAX on August 15th and it was an early morning flight. Portable DVD players helped as well as snacks and pens and paper but it had its moments. We flew LAX - AKL on August 22nd and it was much easier since it's an overnight flight. They did get a bit cramped in their car seats but we held them or swapped seats to change it up a bit. We sat in the last row on opposite sides of the plane which helped in that one didn't get the other one going.
Check in was not so bad. Security usually takes you aside if you have children but you'll have to take them out of the carriers and put the carriers through the scanner.
I think your girls are young enough that it'll be easier. Are you buying seats for them? PM if you want further details.

OMG... so true about one getting the other one going. If one hurts herself, I find the other one crying for her too... can definitly snowball. Good idea about separating them a little. Portable DVD player is a great idea to play specific DVDs for them (sesame street & yo gabba gabba). Only time I'd let them watch 17 hours of TV :) kidding!
If they're under 23mths, you can fly them for 10% of the ticket price, but I guess they must sit on laps.... otherwise another $900 per child. Whenever we flew down to visit family, we would take that LAX night flight. The plane would be so opened we would get the entire 4 seat middle area. We're hoping that even though we'll be paying for only 2 seats we'll have a couple empty seats next to us. I imagine anybody sitting next to us (or around us for that matter) knowing we have 2 babies will quickly bail to the back.
Definitly dreading the flight. We're already practicing holding the girls and getting them used to falling asleep in our arms.
Once we get a bit more settled on what's going on I'll definitly PM you.
Cheers - Brady
