Hi there
Im Renee, and along with my partner Andrew we are hoping to move to New Zealand. Andrew will be the main applicant and he is a plumber.
We havent as yet started the process. Were still reading up on everything that needs doing and im finding it alittle overwhelming! Where do you start!
Were also a bit confused as to where to start as we have recently met some Kiwis that have said they could help us out and get us out their in 2 months, all we have to do is say the word. The guys an agent and can hopefully find andrew a job.
So hello!

Welcome to the Forum. The whole process looks a bit bewildering but just ask on here and there's always somone who can help out - free of charge!! - because they are either going through it themsleves or have been there and done that. Although it looks complicated don't be put off and think twice before paying for the services of an agent. You can find out all you need to know on here and have a great time doing it. Don't be afraid to ask - no question is too daft. Good luck:cheers

Welcome. It seems daunting as you've never done anything like this before. One step at a time & ask away. I would advise you look for Bevsere threads re: plumbing - it'll help you understand the process for a plumber to work in NZ.

AArrgg.
PLEASE hold fire on the agent thing and don't pay 'em any money. As for getting you out here in two months & finding you a job:rolleyes:
You could hop on a plane and get yourselves out here in two months on a visitors visa. You don't need an agent for that. You could look around for a job offer as a plumber and you would find yourself with loads of interest . you don't need a poxy agent for that either. There is a huge shortage here.
The question is - is that the best way to go ? The answer for you , as a UK plumber with an NVQ 2, is NO.
There are several issues to consider before you start the process. Let me say here and now that as Andrew is in the plumbing trade , you will have no difficulty in coming to live and work in New Zealand. Just please, have some patience and make it as easy as you can on yourselves. If you do this right , then you will make your lives here a heck of a lot easier.
Also, it is so much better that you choose your own job/employer. Please don't just step into an NZ job via a third party. It's just too risky. There are plenty of NZ employers here just waiting for your husbands trade skills. He will have no problem getting a job. If he does this himself, at least he can check out the work conditions and agree a reasonable rate of pay.
We are all here to help. You can do this by yourselves.
Have you done the http://www.immigration.govt.nz/pointsindicator/ on the NZIS website yet? [double click on the link] Do it and get familiar with how the points system works.
you get points for
age
qualifications
job offer etc
NZIS stands for New Zealand Immigration Service.
As I have suggested in other posts about plumbing, if you want to gain points for the plumbing trade skill, then it is best Andrew gains the NVQ 3. This is worth valuable points to you plus you can have bonus points for his trade being on the long-term shortage list.
Odds are you would then have enough points to perhaps gain PR [permanent ressidency] without even having a job offer to come to . A job offer means more points though
How many points do you have if you take it as read that Andrew would gain points for his NVQ 3.
How many with a job offer?
You get more points if you choose to settle outside of Auckland too.
Start by finding out about your points. 100 is the minimum. 140 would be pretty darn good.
Next - Andrew gets his NVQ3 to ensure his position with NZIS and PGDB.:nice1
