It's hard to believe it's all come around so fast, but we've got just one last night at home before we embark for NZ.

Tomorrow we're grabbing a train to London, and then on Tuesday we fly out of Heathrow bound for HK and then NZ.

We have far too much luggage for the 20kg limit each, but nothing would enduce me to fly through LA again, and OH loves Chinese culture and always wanted to see HK.

Leaving work was a real wrench, although I only cried twice - once when my boss sent out an email tribute to the whole company about me (we're about 650 people) and then when I had to say goodbye to Mark whom I've worked with the longest, but at least that was in the pub when I'd been drinking a lot and had a good excuse.

All being well, we should arrive in Invercargill on Thursday and I can change the location on my profile... :raebanana

Thanks to everyone who helped us get to this point - it's much easier on a kiwi to head home, but I still learnt a heck of a lot from my fellow forumites and would be in a much bigger muddle if not for you all.

See you all on the other side! xxx

I was going to go with a 'woo hooo!', but Moorf beat me to it, so I'll go with a 'fandabbydozy!', not quite as cool I admit but at least its original! :D

Cheers

Have a really good flight, Amy :)

Have you stocked up on books about the 'Reverse Culture Shock'? OH is getting tons of 'helpful hints' from all sorts of people who suggest that should be read up on, just to be prepared...

Hope you keep us posted from the other side :)

THanks everyone - on wi-fi at Heathrow and ready for the plane in two hours.

One bag was 20kg and one was 28kg! but I said to the lady at check in "it should say on our reservation that they said we could have an extra 5kg each since we're emigrating (which was a lie) .... and she said it wasn't a problem! What a relief!

Getting to the airport was well exciting - since we had so much luggage we decided to splurge on a cab from our central london hotel. A lovely old guy picked us up at Kings X yesterday from the train and he said it would be £50 out to Heathrow, which for the two of us is only slightly dearer than Heathrow Express, plus we didn't have to hike to Paddington Station... so I asked him to come back at noon the next day and pick us up - which he did, and was even early!

Then we got within 6 miles of the airport and got caught in a massive tailback on the M4 ... and we sat in it for 40 minutes because the crash was just ahead of us and the m-way was closed in the section we were stuck in. eventually the police could turn us all around and we had to drive the wrong way down the motorway to get off! most exciting, and bizarre.

Meanwhile the meter ticked up to £103... but the driver, bless, said "no way, I said £50 and I meant it" so we took up two hours of his time and he gave us such a bargain. I tried to give him £80 but he insisted on giving me £20 back. I'm off to the BBC now to see if anyone in that crash needs praying for.

THank you again for such great wishes - it means the world to Sian and I ... and Amanda, coffee in York when we're back to visit the inlaws - I promise!

Work starts on Wed, and we've found a great rental to move into on Oct 26 weekend so only a little commuting til then.
Everything else is going wonderfully and family are spoiling us rotten. More later,
