Qualification question:
Has anyone else been in the situation where the higher-ed institution at which they studied actually has its degrees awarded/validated by a recognized (local) university? I.e., that big university is the name on the certificate; their Vice -Chancellor signs the certificate, etc.
I've touched on this before. In our case, City University in London did all the above on behalf of my wife's college for her MA degree. City's V-C's signature is on certificate, plus City Uni. crest, etc. All very much above board.
Anyone else? By the by, on our EOI we put this to make sure NZIS know the MA is from a place on their list of recognzied universities:
Laban Centre (City University accredited MA Degree).
Cheers,
Matt.

Hi MB,
I did my MBA at a Malaysian Institution but the degree was awarded by University of Bath. I had to spend a month in Bath to qualify for a British Degree. On my award, there is no mention of the Malaysian Institution and the award is exactly the same as an award given to someone in the UK doing a part time MBA at the University of Bath.
When I filled up my EOI I stated that I obtained my Masters from a British University as that is what is stated on the award.
Does that make sense or is it similar to your situation? Not sure! Hope I helped and not confused you! :uhoh
Cheers,
Shagen

Thanks, Shagen (and also for accurately modifying my "hiring letter" post on another thread!)
Yes, it is fairly similar to our case, except the Laban Centre is in London (their new building is the one, in South London, the exterior of which changes colour as you watch!)
City Univ. awards Laban's degrees, which gives the degrees academic clout.
By the by, at least one person extremely high up in the NZ dance world got a degree from Laban, so let's hope the names means something to NZIS! :laugh
Cheers,
Matt.

matt, my wife went to Bishops Otter College, Chichester which is affiliated to Southampton University (on the list)
On the EOI, I put Bishops Otter College but forgot the accredidation. This was cleared up when our case officer saw the exam certificate.
So, YES, give all the information you can.
Funny, the Laban is next door to where I work!! (but today is my last day) Its a translucent plastic dance school

Shagen - we're in the US now. Her MA was at Laban in London a few years ago, soon after a full BA Dance degree from a large state university in the US (which is almost certainly in the NZIS's US-recognized-institution coding). Even more recently she went back to that US univ and got a second BA, this time in Drama, which we didn't even mention on the EOI as there was no place to do so.
Funkstar Deluxe - LOL. To paraphrase one of Danny Baker's favourite lines, if I (or Mrs. Matt) ever writes an autobiography I think I'll call it "A Translucent Plastic Dance School". What a great phrase.
Yes, quite a change: Laban used to be in a converted church behind Goldsmith's College in New Cross. Not far from the big Marquis of Granby pub. :cheers
Cheers,
Matt.
