hello
have been reading this forum for about 3 months or so, and thought i had better introduce myself.
my oh and i want to go and live in nz and we are just about to put in our eoi
but not sure what points we can claim. i run my own florist shop and have been a florist for over 20 years, my problem is that its on the skills shortage list(senior florist level 4).Although i could do that job with my eyes closed,
i never took any exams in floristry, i did a 3 year apprentiship on the job training years ago, and never needed any qualifications until now. so does 23 yrs expeerience count for any thing. my oh is a tutor for the unemployed dealing with skills coaching, confidance , motavation etc and barriers to work
and has just gained nvq level 4 (which i think is eqivalent to a degree)
He loves his work and would love to do something similar in nz.however he does have another string to his bow as he is a trained chef , he has had his own pubs and ran many more businesses over the years, so if we cant get in with his nvq level 4 we may have to use his chef quals. he is a bit reluctant to back to cheffing because of the unsocial hours but if that is our only way in then so it must be.i must say what a great site this is and very helpful.

Welcome Flowerlady

We are also in Hampshire... as our professions are not on the skills shortage we are going for a job offer for my husband to support our application as like you we have a variety of experince in our fields but not the NVQ4 to show..

Good luck!

Hi

Welcome to the forum.

Did you complete you apprenticeship as if you did I think that will count towards you eoi. I would dig out the certificates as this is what the NZ immigrations says under recognised qualifications.

Trade Qualifications

The City and Guilds Part One and Part Two Certificates named below, together with evidence of a completed apprenticeship registered with a recognised industry body, are assessed as occupying Level 3 of the Register and will therefore qualify for 50 points.

Note: Visa and immigration officers must ensure that the Part Two Certificate is a full qualification (usually three components). Individual components of the Part Two qualification may be separately certificated. Most full Part Two certificates require completion of three components.

This could include your floristry apprenticeship as a full 3 year apprenticeship is a level 3 qualification and normally certificated by City and Guilds.

Hope this helps.

I agree with M&J, I have helped a relative come over who was in the building trade, but never finished his quals. Basically he had to get his experience assessed by C&G, and sit the exams. He had so much experience (he was a C&G mentor) under his belt passing wasn't a problem. It all just took time. Approach C&G and find out what can be done.

Hello - I'm another former Hamshire person.

Just a quick point, that if you gain PR through your husband's chef qualifications, he doesn't actually need to be a chef in NZ. Once PR is granted you can do whatever you like - I have completely changed careers since I was granted mine.

Good luck with your application.

the other way round is to get a job and then apply for EOI & then PR. We did our EOI before we arrived got jobs and then had to do all the process still through London, nightmare wish I had waited until we got here. Depends how brave you are.

If florist are shortage area once you get the job you should be fast tracked anyway you will not need the qualifications points. Re calcualte your points as one or the other as principle and see who get the most with a job and with qualifications that you have. They would not accept my C&G hairdressing as I did it full time at college joke eh, not been hairdressing for 15 years now though. did not recongise my new job here as did not have relevant experience so I ended up adding no points to our application in the end. Still got our PR with just OH points and he is in the oldest age group for points bless.

thanks for that info steve are they based all over nz and are ther other organisations doing the same, and any contact numbers you can give.
would be much appreciated. we were told by an agent that he would have to have a job offer along with his quals to get pr, but when he went online to access himself he had more points than he thought.only thong is its not on the skills shortage list i dont think, unless the are classed as teachers over there.
