I have a great contact in Rangiora and they have an info pack that they are prepared to mail w/wide which includes info such as Churches, Law firms, Banks, Doctors, Schools, Museum, Sports centers, picnic spots, library, councilors, trades people, map etc. They can also enclose further information about distances to Christchurch, photos and any other thing you think could be helpful.
PM/Email me for details.

Sorry folks - I hadn't updated my email address on my Profile... :oops:
Am increasingly worried about Rangiora... every time I mention to someone that we are now looking in that area they start humming "Dualling Banjos" and asking if Woz is also my brother !!! :uhoh

Thanks Paula... we are increasingly aware that some of the areas we had previously been avoiding in the Rangiora / Kaipoi region are actually well worth investigating and you get alot more for your $$ than in Chch itself...
We bought a 2nd car at the weekend so I shall be off all over the place with my Blue Book in hand :laugh
Yep, Woz's mates at work were humming theme tune from Deliverance too :laugh

while u have to listen to people about the different areas try going around them and make your own minds up. If you find one or two that appeal see them at different times of day and visit on a Friday/saturday night to get a feel for them. Some people are 'posher' than others and feel that they have to live in the 'right' areas. me I'm not to bothered as long as it suits me and mine.

Not sure we mow our lawn often enough to live in the posh areas :laugh :laugh plus we don't do surburbia very well :no
I think that the "culture shock" had a lot to do with our initial views of areas and being new we did rely on other peoples opinions, and now we have been here a while we are doing just as Veronica suggested and going to visit areas that perhaps don't feature in the "top ten".
Just back from a 5 hour explore around the Oxford / Ohoka / Darfield areas... lots of stopping for walks with Summer :nice1 (found a great picnic and dog exercise area at The Groynes - Summer approves and loved swimming in the river :P )
Ohoka - LOVELY.. but a bit too pricey for us at the moment. Houses in lots of land, set back about 3 acres from the road :yes not much of a village centre but the area is lovely and Rangiora isn't far for shops etc.
Darfield - nah.. not our scene, can't be too specific but just didn't like the look and feel of the place.
Oxford - v.nice little village with fab views of the mountains, nice feel, friendly locals but just a bit toooo far out to commute IMHO but some great properties to be found there with lots of land (was looking at one that had 1.5 acres, old villa and was c. $260K.) Commute time is going to be around 50 mins to 1 hour.. if anyone can be more exact I'd be interested to know their route and time :yes
Off to do Kaipoi / Leithfield and up along that coastline later this week.

We moved into Rangiora this week, and are really enjoying it already. It's very friendly and relaxed, and only 20 mins or so to Christchurch when you want the city things. If you're coming over to check it out, let me know and come in for a cuppa.

I feel a Rangiora Meet coming on.... would be nice for us that don't live out there to meet and chat with those that already do. I see there are a few of you looking to move out that way.
What about it? I wouldn't know where to meet though...

Great idea, count me in. Haven't actually been in any bars yet as I usually have 2 kids in tow, so can't really recommend anywhere. Tara, do you know what that cafe/bar is like on the corner opposite Robbies where people are often sitting outside?

Shall we do 7:30 for those that can, and sort out something for a weekend to include children/other halves? How about Robbies (as this is the only place any of us know) for a beer?
Tara, can I call for you on the way ?
Paula, what would be a good time to include the family? Think we may be heading over to Brighton for the buskers this coming weekend. What about the following one? Alternatively me & the kids are free tomorrow - they go back on Thursday. How about a swim in the Rangiora outdoor pool?
Any thoughts anyone? Mandy

Guys,
Can anyone tell me what the real commute time is to Christchurch from Rangiora? The place is really growing on me as a possible destination but the commute time might be the decider if I end up having to work in the city.
Cheers,
Mark. :P

OK, as a decider between Rolleston and Rangiora commute time is probably a red herring. Just looked at Wises and got driving directions:
Rangiora --> Cathedral Square = 29 km
Rolleston --> Cathedral Square = 29 km
Hmmm, this was a surprise to me but it certainly puts Rangioraat the top of my list.
