My girlfriend and I are planning our move to nz in January 09. We probably have enough points to get the ball rolling now. My question is, is it better to start the process now before we have job offers or to wait until we have offers right before the move? Hopefully I make sense, sorry if I am a little unclear.

If you are serious about moving and have enough points to be selected, then apply now. It can take 6 mths or more depending on what points you have and you can always be slow in responding with medicals, etc. if you think it is going too fast.
You still have 12 months after you get the magical blue stickers to arrive in NZ (I think).

I Agree with Rusty, We applied in May 2006, and have only just been granted PR. If you get a job offer in the mean time the application will then be fast tracked by NZIS Anyway. You have nothing to lose !
Good luck

i have 180 points but still its so hard to get there. so i have chosen to go the easy way, a 3 month holiday and when i am there i will look for a job. i already got a place to stay in auckland and i am from south africa. i have got the skill but my partner is not skilled. It takes long just to get your report from an agent, sometimes the agent even forgets you. thats what happened to me

Yup, get your app in now, then get it speeded up if you get a job offer in the meantime.
The process took us 9 months to get PR without a job offer, and that was relatively speedy.
