try the British Embassy in Wellington! Failing that phone up you old police headquarters and have them sent out. Failing that have a relative get the forms for you and send them out!

Hi Tara
http://www.met.police.uk/dataprotection/faq.htm
This is where I looked for the forms necessary for the Police checks. I live in London, hence the Metropolitan Police district, so I downloaded the form direct from this site (form 3019B for the Police National Computer). Depending on where you lived in the UK you may need to find the appropriate Police force website to download the necessary form. There is a link on this page about that. There's a bit more info on subject access under the data protection act here:
http://www.met.police.uk/dataprotection/index.htm
Hope this helps!

I did it! I found the forms on the internet. :nice1
I went to my county police website and under data protection the had the forms in PDF so printed them "hey presto"
That was easier than trying to get them from the uk.

Hiya Tara,
Word of advice from someone who has has sent off three requests for UK police certificates and had two thrown back because of "insufficient ID". Make sure you read very carefully the instructions of what ID they will accept... Last time it was chucked back because I didn't include something with my current NZ address! I'd included something with my last UK address.
Good luck,
Evelynne

Just received our police checks through - has anyone else got theirs to hand? I ask because at the bottom of our checks which, incidently, say we are clear and not on the police database thingy :angel , it says "This does not consitute a Certificate of Good Character"
The letter is headed "National Identification Service Authentic Document" with two blue bands (one at top of page and one at the bottom). It refers to "Section 7, Data Protection Act 1998 - Subject Access" - is this the correct check? It was the only one offered to us..

Hi Moorf
I posted exactly the same question when ours came through and apparently that is it - that's what you get. Not very impressive eh.
Sorry to hear your trip was a disaster and about your Gran.
Best wishes - Sandra

Just logging in from a Travel Inn near Bangor, North Wales - we don't go far without our laptops! They now have wireless connection facilities in their rooms... wow, Wales goes hi-tech! :laugh

You're 2 hours away from me there. Dave was on contract in Anglesey for over a year living away from home, so I've done that drive a few times two summers ago.
Keep your chin up - don't get down.

Thoughts will be with you for tomorrow.
Dave was working at the power station at Cemaes Bay. Had a small cold flat to live in while he was there but he got on very well with his landlord and lady. Probably still e-mailing them from NZ if I know him.

Hi there. I've got a public order conviction (a fine and a conditional discharge - no custodial sentence) from my youth here in the UK but it's been "spent" under the terms of the 1974 Rehabilitation Of Offenders Act, meaning it's no longer a blot on my copybook and I do not have to disclose it to employers etc.
However, I believe NZ law doesn't recognise the UK Rehabilitation Act - yet. Should I come clean and hope for the best in my application for skilled migrant status or should I follow the guidelines of UK law and not disclose?
I am worried because I am already destined for NZ on a working holiday visa and if this misdemeanour works against me I fear I might be thrown out of the country. I've quit my job in the UK, given up my flat and have a job offer in Auckland pending me getting my EOI under way.
Can anyone help? Has anyone faced this problem before? I can't find any information on what a very old minor offence could mean for an application on the immigration site and I'm really starting to get worried.
PS Early indications show I'm going to get 180 points. Would one work in favour of the other?

Have you applied for your police check yet? When the 'establishment' tell you that your record has been wiped clean and that you don't have to declare anything to an employer, does that mean that it will not show up on a police check.
My advise to you is this: Apply for the police check. When it arrives see what it says. If there is no mention of it then I can't see any point in mentioning it in your application, If there is reference to it you will need to provide clarification to the NZIS.
With 180 points and an event which took place a long time ago which dealt out no more than a fine and a conditional discharge I wouldn't imagine you have much to worry about.
Good luck.

Hi Diny, thanks for the reply.
I'm in the process of getting my police thing together, although it's proving very difficult!
I think the police keep the events on file, but you don't have to disclose them (in the UK at least).
It's good advice and thanks, I was thinking pretty much the same myself.
So it's not an automatic "no" in these circumstances? Phew!

How long are the checks good for? Some places I read say 3 months and others say its 6 months. ANyone know the real number?
Just wondering because I just got mine back but won't be leaving till December. Weird how they say it can take 3 months to get it back but only took 2 weeks.

Hi All,
Bringing this back to the top to ask a question:
On the police check form there are 6 sections, the first being "Prosecution/Conviction history and cautions", I assume this is the only information needed for NZIS? The lady that Anne spoke to at the police station mentioned finger prints, we don't need these for NZIS do we?
Thanks for any info!! :nice1
Mark.

i needed fingerprints for canadian clearance. big pain. you shouldn't need this for uk/nz. maybe your officer was the one who released the guy on remand for the 6 attempted murder's charge...

Seriously though, is there a definitive answer? Those of you that have got PR, did you need finger prints done?
Cheers,
Mark.

Hi Markkellaway
For the UK police check you definitely don't need to have your fingerprints taken. You fill in a form from your local police authority requesting info held about you on the Police National Computer ( here is the link to the met's form but you might need a different authority http://www.met.police.uk/dataprotection/forms/3019b.pdf) send off your 10 quid and your supporting docs. They'll do the check and send the form back to you saying nothing found or reporting whatever they do find and that's the polic certificate.
Different countries do their police checks differently so to get my FBI one to cover the years I've been in the states I had to have fingerprints taken, but for my UK one it was just filling in a simple form.
Anyway that was a long answer so I will stop blathering on now.
Good luck

Hi Feathers,
I have the form to fill in for my local (Dorset) police force, but it has a number of areas you can request info on as follows:
(a) Prosecution/Conviction History and Cautions
Details of prosecutions, convictions and cautions
(N.B. Not all prosecutions/convictions/cautions are held on police computers)
(b) Disqualified Drivers
People who are currently disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence
by order of a Court.
(c) Wanted/Missing
Those who are sought by the Police and unidentified people found.
(d) Fingerprints
Relates to the fingerprint records.
(e) Vehicle Owners/Keepers
Details of vehicle owners/keepers.
(f) Stolen/Suspect Vehicles Property
About vehicles and other property which are of interest to the police.
I'm assuming that I only need to tick the box for (a) to satisfy NZ requirements.
Cheers,
Mark. :P

are you sure you have the correct form there, as feathers has said it's a fairly straight forward form and i can't remember all those options on my one i filled out a couple of weeks ago.

Question for Tara Sage and Evelynne R
Our Police Certificates have expired and our ITA has arrived now. The Cheshire police force forms have to be witnessed by somebody who has known us for at least one year, which of course isn't possible as we haven't been here a year. Police Officer, JP, School Teacher, Solicitor etc. Did your forms have to be witnessed and if so what did you do about it?
