I'm a little confused. The nice folks at the Karori post office told us our post code is 6012, yet we have received mail from the gas company and electric, and they have the post code listed as 6005 on our bill. I googled the post code and both of them show up on various sites. We asked the post office to be sure, and they say 6012 is the one...but more mail arrived today with 6005 on it. :eek:
Anyone else experience this kind of thing?
Not sure what to tell the family!! Back in the states the wrong "zip code" could mean delayed or lost mail!!

I think a while back they changed the postcodes, so either one could be right :o Might be worth checking to see what the neighbours use.
I wouldn't worry too much about putting the postcode, everything that has been sent from the UK to here has never had a postcode on :D

We have the same here two different postcodes. It doesn't seem to matter which postcode is used if any.

Hi,
For Karori the postcode used to be 6005, but this has been changed to 6012 last year, but hardly anyone seem to bother.

The new post codes will start to be enforced in July 2008. The post office had to give companies a large time period in order to update all their address databases, so that is why you will still get mail with the old post code on it.
Originally postcodes were only used in NZ for delivery of bulk mail, and few people utilised their personal postcode.
However, due to increases in mail volume, and addressing discrepencies (vanity addresses are a big culprit of this!), postcodes are now being used for every address and delivery point throughout NZ.
It's advisable to give out the new one to people who may be sending you things rather than the old one though.
This website tells you everything you could possibly want to know - and more...

(Can you tell I was PM for a project relating to this subject!)

Oh This reminded me of something funny
Once I sent FIL in the US a birthday card and put our address on the back as;
Smiler Towers
Our Postcode
UK
You've guessed it, next birthday card from him arrived addressed as;
Deborah
Smiler Towers
Our Postcode
UK
It cracked us up for days! :laugh

It's the same here in Hamilton, our post code is 3210 but still shows up as the old 2001 code. As Kerry has said the new ones will be used from July 2008. I have heard it said that any mail after this time showing the wrong postcode will not be delivered. You can check your postcode by going to the NZ post website.
