New Zealand post have published the mailing dates for this year:-

Special Sending Occasions (http://www.nzpost.co.nz/Cultures/en-NZ/Personal/SpecialSendingOccasions/)

Thought it might be useful?

Take note that some of the dates are earlier than you may think e.g. November 10th for international economy.

Have already started writing my Christmas Cards....thought we'd better be organised this year as it will cost more to post them...even after doing Xmas e-mails to everyone we can instead of sending cards :roll

My mum have just gone home after her 3 week visit.....sent her off with a bunch of cards to post for me when she gets back. Going to send all other relatives cards as job lot to MIL and get her to distribute them when she sends hers. Seems wrong writing Merry Christmas, when it's still October.....but better than last minute madness:roll

We ours last week but still have to wrap and post them. :no I just can't get my head around writing Christmas cards, just yet. I like the idea of bundling them up together and getting mum or mil to distribute. :nice1

I also just received a bunch of cards from my dad that he posted before he went in hospital (just in case). Includes birthday, anniversary and christmas cards all in December! Feels very odd to be receiving them this early.

Just sent off a buzzy bee and my first knitting project, a blanket, to my little sister and her new boy in Texas. We sent it economy for $32! and was told it would take 14-21 days....or at least that is what my partner told me they told him....as for the cards...at $2 a pop, we are going email this year....

Bought calendars today for parents, putting xmas cards inside for them too, as well as for relatives that live nearby, and birthday cards for Dec birthdays too! They are more than happy for us to do that, they do it with mail coming this way too.

Well, I'm just wrapping up the last few pressies. Written all the Christmas cards, bought all the jiffy bags and boxes yesterday. Feeling a trifle smug actually. This early posting suits my anal tendencies.

Hi, excuse my ignorance, but am i right in thinking the last day for packages to the UK is 10th ................. better get my skates on if right, havent even started christmas shopping yet!!

Its our first one in NZ and cant believe how 'laid back' it is compared to the Uk!! Would have started well before now.

Got my cards and some paper, suppose thats a start - think i will be posting most into mil's so she can distribute to her side of family and will try to get my dad or sister to do same.......

Actually the 10th of November is for International Economy (cheapest option).

Most people actually end up sending post by International Air (seems to be the default option at the post office if you don't ask) whose last date is 1st December.

The very last (and most expensive) date is 12th December.

I'd still try to get your post off early if you can. There are postal strikes in the uk, some areas with 3 weeks delays! In fact we are still waiting for some of Ayrtons cards which i know were posted 3 weeks ago and haven't yet arrived!!

Done half of my christmas cards, and i don't have to post one to mum and dad i can give it to them in person!!!!:raebanana

May I join you in Smugland Sam? :D

All pressies bought, wrapped and posted. The PO lady said they'd take around 3 weeks for International Economy at this time of year, but at least I'll be early, not late. :raebanana

As of 4:55pm today my Christmas packages are all mailed!!!! I can't believe I made it for economy. I haven't finished my Christmas cards yet, but I bought economy stamps anyways and will try to mail them on Monday.

Now I just have to buy presents for my dogs.

Yes, I actually made it to the PO too by midday and posted my pressies. Had mad dash around town last night buying some stuff to send to families ....... cant get my head round it still!!

Will be better organised next year, just got little one and hubby to think of now so not too bad, and finishing off the christmas cards......thinking of sending e cards to my mates back in the uk, try and save bit of money!

Anyone recommend where in Hastings you can get nice 'family' cards (hubby, son, and the usual) ?? All the ones i have seen are about $5+ which works out a trifle expensive when you have to buy about 12 or so and then mail them .........

Well i chanced it and shoved all mine in the box today... hadn't even bought cards until yesterday as I had it in my head it was next saturday!

Last year we posted them on virtually the last possible day, and they arrived in normal air mail time and everyone thought we were bonkers sending cards in November!

Wow, i figured it was time to buy some cards to post today (worry about prezzies later even if later than Xmas!).

So i wanted some cards that were specifically NZ, ie pics of a kiwi with a Xmas tree etc (most say "from New Zealand" too which is nice). I found some at the postshop, picked 20 out (had no selection boxes just loose of these ones) took to counter, and also asked for 20 international stamps.

$109 !!! OMG i nearly fell over, i think cards in UK costed me about 10-15GBP a year (yup tight-ass!) and now i wish i had shortened my card list! LOL :laugh

Ho Hum... completely missed the 1st December too so looks like not only will it cost a load to get it all sent it will all arrive late!

Think I need to plan ahead next year, at least this year we had an excuse... well we have only been here 3mths and we have found, purchased and moved into a new house during that time.

Doesn't help that I'm still finding it down right weird that Christmas is around the corner because the weather is all wrong. I'm hoping it gets easier the longer you stay in the Southern Hemisphere.
