Hi ,
Trying to sort out insurance, I have been putting it off as I know it is such a big job, we have filled form in, where you give an overall estimate of 'electrics....bedroom furniture' etc...and then mentions and inventory....the letter I have had sent out by Letton Percival is sooooooo vague...do I just go around my whole house, write every item, price it...add it up and enter it on the main sheet...making sure they all balance??? Am\I looking too deeply into this? For clothes do I have to count the amount of items of clothing I have and put overall costs? Do shoes come under clothes??? Also there is an 'others' box.....do I just put 'others' on my inventory and list what I have valued?
I am harrassed, stressed help..............please!!!

I did my inventory in an excel spreadsheet, and did it room by room writing down everything, where it came from/ brand, value new (if I remembered) and estimated replacement value. I itemised all my books, CDs and DVDs (I'm sure you don't have to go into that level of detail, but having an inventory of my CDs really helped when I claimed on my household insurance a few years ago when all my CDs were stolen - I just gave the insurers the list and they sourced all the CDs for me. Of course, it meant I ended up with the same old rubbish I'd had before, instead of having a chance to have a nice, new CD collection, but hey ho). For clothes and shoes I just insured for an amount that I estimated I would need if I had to replace my whole wardrobe. Then I grouped everything like ornaments, chima, kitchenware, etc, and put those amounts on the proposal form.
I'm not sure if that was the best way to do it, but I feel happier knowing I have a really detailed list on my laptop!

Give Letton Percival a ring.....I filled mine in in about two minutes, so yes, I think that you are over analysing it.
I remember telling the woman at Lettons (is she called Anne - can't remember now!!) how easy their forms were.
If I remember rightly, don't you do it 'per room'? i.e Master bed £3,000, Lounge £6,000 etc ?
Also remember to get the 'Pairs/sets' cover - this means that if one of a set or 4 chairs is damaged that the lot will be replaced, not just the one.
Chin up Jade, you're on the final leg.

Julie,
Did you not write anywhere a breakdown of the £3000 in your master bedroom?? EG, if they broke the bed....how would they know how much you had allocated??
Oh my gosh I am getting in a pickle....I really wish I just didnt give a stuff...Im sick of looking too deeply into things aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

That's exactly how I did it. The nightmare was the SHED ( OH territory)He said he was taking everything (Lots of junk!!) So when he was otherwise engaged I started removing stuff behind & got rid of it over a period of time. When it came to sorting (stood behind him with a wet lettuce) he quite smugily told me there wasn't as much stuff as I'd been carrying on about ... it only looked a lot. Oh silly me! But anyway I digress, I know it's a pain but the room by room method seems to be the easiest & most importantly if things go missing, you have a ready made itinery now.We had a whole package disappear & if it hadn't been for my list I really wouldn't have known immediately what the items were. Good luck.

No, I don't believe I did and I too remember thinking at the time the same thoughts as you are now.
I certainly didn't do a full inventory either (by this stage I was loosing the will to live!) and you get one from your packers/shippers anyway. Not that there's anything wrong in doing one JoJo !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)
Stop worrying. Get a good nights sleep and ring 'em in the morning.

No, but I certainly discussed it with her over the phone 'cos I couldn't get my head around the simplicity of it either.
I think by the time we get to this stage in the immigration process, we have filled in so many forms and made sure that we have dotted all the i's and crossed all the t's that we get scared and a bit too pedantic.

I hope Letton Percival are doing really well out of us lot. :nice1
Holland don't stress, I think you are over analysing the form.;)
Take photo's of stuff before you pack it, well anything precious or valuable, so the condition can be seen if need be.
We did this with Lettons and attched a copy of the pics to our form when we sent it to them. It particularly helped when we need to claim for the damage to the car. :wah
You get a full inventory with the shippers so unless you need or want to do it, it's not necessary.
Good luck!

Easy peezy eh?
Just wander round, snapping willy nilly, whack them on a disc, give a copy to insurers if you want, back up copy with parents in UK (incase hard drive gets wiped) and take a copy with you. YAY!:clap

LOL - no worries: no offence taken, I know I erred very much on the side of caution, but I am a bit (maybe a lot) anal. Ha ha ha.
