Just though I'd give some feedback on what it took to ship our scooter.

1. It cost us about $800.00 to ship from Los Angeles to Auckland. We had to provide the title of the vehicle to send with the shipment (it spooked me at first, but we got it back).

2. When we picked it up, a separate company that had to unload it (Transitainer) charged us $243.00 to unload it, process the paperwork, have an MAF (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry) inspection done, etc.

3. Then we had to clear it through customs, where they charged us a percentage of its value + a percentage of the shipping costs. So the customs cost came to $352.00 NZD (refundable as long as you ship it back within one year). We had to provide the title, proof of purchase, and proof of shipping payment.

4. Now we have to get it licensed, which will probably cost roughly $230.00.

Tip 1: Disconnect the cables (negative first) from the battery yourself. Turn off the gas valve as well, and try to burn off the excess fuel in the pipe before having it loaded into the container. Sometimes the shipping company won't do it for you. Then when you retrieve it, connect the battery cables (positive first).

Tip 2: Carry cheques or cash. Few places accept credit/debit cards. Customs would only take a personal or bank cheque.

Tip 3: www.landtransport.govt.nz has a little bit of information on what to expect as far as licensing. They are the division who will manage the information, but they weren't very helpful directing us where to go to have the inspection done.

Okay, it looks like it will be more like $330.00 to do a WOF (Warrant Of Fitness) and licensing on the scooter. Just FYI.
