HI guys

We arrive in NZ in jan and we will only have a backpack with clothes and a trumpet.

Therefore, I need to get everything for the rented house we are going to stay in (hopefully furnished will be available). Can anyone give me ideas of where to look to buy, furniture (cheap), a cheap car and I mean really cheap crappy car/cars?

Thanks for your help Peeps:)

which endof NZ are going to, can help out loads if its Christchurch otherwise not a lot. if you are looking for cheap cars and its going to be soon go to one of the local BBH backpackers hostels and see what cars are on offer on their boards there, or look on www.backpackerboard.co.nz site and see whats on offer there. failing that trade me or the local charity shops for furniture etc.

I've always said there should be an ad section on ENZ! ;)

I don't know where you are moving to and it depends what shops/stores you are near, but off the top of my head;

Trademe for everything from the rental to the car

The Warehouse - where everyone gets a bargain (I hate the WH) ok for cookware and stuff, but it won't last long. They also do furniture depending on the size of the store.

Second hand stores and op shops

Briscoes - but only when the sale is on, good for towels and sheets.

Farmers - more upmarket furniture than the WH

Harvey Normans for furniture and electrical appliances, they have big 3 days sales too.

You can often get a good deal in an independant store too.

Look in the paper when you arrive at the classified ads :nice1

I remember the mad rush of those early days ahhhhhhhhhhh

We have found lots of usables at Salvation Army...bowls, chairs, dishes, you name it! Cheap!!! They have beds, couches, tables....and in pretty good shape!

And when (if) you are finished with them you can donate them back ;-)

If you are near Auckland, then would definitely check out the car fairs that they have there. A good way to see a load of cheap second hand cars.

See car fairs (http://www.carfair.co.nz/sellers.phtml) for more details.

We got all our house stuff on trademe.. and splurged on a few nice kitchen pots at Moore Wilson.

Car got on auction at Turners online auctions

I find the op shops (thifts stores) here in Wellington to be well picked through, but if you search you can find things.

I also occasionally have people from the states bring me stuff too:)
